Keeping things in reverse order I'm posting part two next. These shots are from the cruise from Des Moines to Columbus. At the height of it we had 32 cars cruising the countryside with us. Everything from modern to traditional, families to young couples, even loser hot rod photographers...and of course, Bob K!

Leaving Monday after Des Moines and arriving Thursday afternoon in Columbus we didn't cover a ton of miles on any one day, but we did get to stop and check out shops, museums, and collections. We had a couple free lunches and a couple free dinners. A 200 car cruise night was thrown in our honor. And more!

Brandon and I got to cruise with the Bob K in his famous convertible '52 Chevy. After a few days on the road with him, he turns out to be an even better guy than I knew him to be. We talked a lot of shit, joked and generally enjoyed hot rodding in the sunshine blasting by endless corn fields. Pretty damn cool!

I tried to edit out most of the whine-inducing rides. I'll be doing it again next year and we're even talking about having a film crew along, so makes plans to cruise with us for 2012!

    Thanks for the ride Bob!!!!

    Hey! Corn.

    That's nice!

I think the three kids in the back seat will be hooked on cars for life. Their mom came up to me a few days into the trip and said that their youngest thought Bob K was Santa, but couldn't decide if I was one of Santa's helpers or a leprechaun. From that point on I kept an eye on those kids to make sure they weren't after me gold!

Arriving at Yogi's for a private tour on the 4th of July. He and his wife came in to open up just for us. They even fed us. How cool is that?[IMG]

Bob, Brandon and I snuck out of dinner early to try to dig up James Dean's skull in Fairmount. We shared a three-straw margarita out of JD's headbone.

    We didn't find Garfield's grave.

It should be called the James Dean Museum. I didn't expect much, but was pleasantly surprised at the cool stuff they had on display. I'm not really a James Dean fan (I'm not sure how anyone is), but it was neat to see history.

  15. Kirk-I have been on and have led several cruises from Des Moines to Columbus and for all the guys that have not been on one, it is a very special deal. I know on the ones I was on I got to see some really unbelievable things and meet some fantastic people. To those that have not been on one, do it. You will never regret it. The memories I have are really special.
    Thanks for the pics.

The year I met Bob it was at the Des Moines show. Knew right away he was first rate. I also did the cruise to Columbus in my wagon it took forever to get there (when you are used to blasting down the interstate to get from Point A to Point B). but it was a lot of fun.. I think we have about 14 cars...
