Right! That cam must have cost a mint, and I have to believe more push than the original stock valve springs supplied (even though, as I recall, they were doubles)..

And, SORRY, NoShine, I missed your mention of the Ross forged pistons, even on the reread. My brain is getting OLD!

It is a roller so no break-in needed.

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

Jimi- The heads are straight bolt on, they received some mild port work, but nothing crazy. The springs are dual springs now with chromoly retainers and stainless valves, stock 1.94 intake and 1.75 exhaust, a BIG upgrade from 276/291 heads.

As for the bottom end, forged Ross slugs like you saw and stock rods shot peened and ARP rod bolts added. The crank was micropolished, turned 10/10 just for a nice cleanup and the oiling holes were chamfered. It makes GREAT oil pressure and runs nice and cool.

I'll see if I can get a dyno sheet posted up on here for you all.

    Thanks again!

Minewithnoshine, were you able to come up with any flow bench numbers? I'd REALLY like to see them if possible. Personally, I'd be more interested in the flow #'s than the dyno sheets. Also, what did the chambers cc at? Thanks for any info.

Also wondering if anyone can tell me how much bigger (if at all) the ports are in the tall deck heads than the 276/291 heads. I am aware of the valve sizes, asking about the ports themselves.

The diameter of the port is a LOT bigger on the 330 heads, just in stock form. I have some pictures of the stock exhaust manifolds, and the diameter is a good 1/4-3/8" bigger on the 330 heads. The headers I had before used 1 1/2" primaries and the 330 heads were a touch over 1 3/4" stock.

I just hope it does justice to the body! It's coming along great!

Dude, I hope you keep the "DeSoto" plug-wire covers. Even under normal circumstances, a DeS HEMI is nothing to hide.:p

And YOURS is no shrinking violet! LOL:D

The potential problem with the plug wire covers is inductive cross-fire across 5 and 7. You could look at using some of this stuff on those two wires where they are in close proximity to each other under the covers. I realize its not period correct, but it would be hidden under the covers, so its worth considering.

Good point, AND good suggestion! I love 'em, 'cause they keep the defunct DeSoto name proudly out there -- still crankin'! -- and it's such a NEAT package. And trad, too.

I never had the crossfire problem on my 291 Fireflite, BUT then, I wasn't running the ignition system that NoShine will be. :D

Sweet engine, makes me more anxious to fire up my Dodge 270. Mines a little milder but still expecting 275 HP

I have a 276 DeSoto, nice engine, ready to go through. Crank Std./Std.

Need info on Ross pistons...(best place to order, and is that 10.5:1 compression ratio a 'stocked number'?)
Can't seem to find a catalog page on Dodge/DeSoto Hemi pistons for Ross...

Mike, try Venolia. I got pistons from Ross and Venolia. Venolia was about $100 cheaper. Bill

I do not believe that any of the custom piston shops stock anything for the DeSoto or Dodge engines. Simply not enough demand...
If you want another option I sell AutoTec forgings, and like the others, you won't find anything listed on the web site for these engines.
