The only two I buy without looking through them, I know they are always a quality buy. :)

Custom Rodder which I think is out-of-business....? Jerry Weesner is a fun dude to read. He did some silly stuff with that Comet but he comes across as a nice guy and his writing style is very casual, much like shooting the bull with another car guy. I've followed the senor Ganahl through several periodicals just because he's the Steinbeck of car mags, i.e., he writes for every man but never talks down to us.

I like the Old Skool type mags but no one smiles in them and I don't get that. Seeing 1930s-50s cars with a bunch of scowling folks is weird to me. Those books have some great articles and some great builds but I don't know that I could approach any of those guys at a car show and just talk cars. I get an Outlaw Biker meets Rod and Custom vibe off them. I respect the machines and the talent it takes to build them though.

Personally, I enjoy the 'reader's rides' bits of assorted car mags more than 90% of their articles. There's just something cool about seeing a nineteen year old kid in the midwest cruising in some early 1960s Olds yacht with black primer and violet wheels. I can't imagine how a publishing company would go about putting out a mag filled with nothing daily drivers but I'd subscribe to it. that's pretty much what the HAMB is though.

  5. Mine Has to be Rolls and Pleats....
It is one of the best mags for the newer ones and it is a small pages style.
I have every issue and have never been disapponted with one yet. I started with it
Back when it was a culture mag called Contential Restyling
Back in the early 90's. It was an English based mag that I believe is now out of France.

Hot Rod Deluxe right now. Then Hot Rod. Used to be Car Craft but David Freiburger going to HR pushed it ahead. R&C sucks nowadays, I like Street Rodder better.

Also loved Garage Magazine but haven't seen it in a while!

  13. I look at most all of them, but HRD and Rod & Kulture are probably the ones I like best. A lot of the others are hit or miss.

Anyone know what happened to GARAGE magazine? I ordered a subscription a long time ago and havent received not one issue. Magazines Ive been reading lately would be Hot Rod Deluxe, and Popular Mechanics, Deadend magazine online is pretty nice as well.

The HAMB is pretty much my main source that provides what a magazine could.

Well this place and Playboy. Lot's of nice rigs in there too!
