Wow!! That olde "shoebox" had to push a heckuva lot of air to hit 122mph - even at HMB! Got any more pix of the 55 Ermie?

My Uncle Rufus Boswell ran a B/MP 39 Chevy 2dr Sedan called "LiLBit" back in the late 60's out of Maryland, till the front end split and it went end over end, he survived but the car did not. My future project is a clone of that car, I've been gathering pics for years for it and have the help of the man himself, so someday I'll stumble on a barn find 39 sedan, till then I'll build it in my head...... Here it is at Aquasco in 1966.

I agree Modified Production was one of the Best Classed ever for the N.H.R.A.

Those were the day's for sure because there were so many really great running cars.

Why not bring it back again?

    Rules question:
In the early years MPs had to run with a full exhaust system, yes?
Then at some point racing headers were allowed (with cut-outs?) but they still were "attached" to the stock exhaust system, yes?
When did the NHRA throw up their hands and allow just racing headers?

The two Candy Apple pics were taken at New England Dragway and the one when the car was black with a red hardtop was taken in 1966 at The Spring Nationals in Bristol, Tenn.

One of my favorite memories of those days was watching the Hurst crew tear apart and rebuild that hemi in their motel room at the Holiday Inn Airport in Indy.

All is not lost. We at the North Jersey Outlaws (NJO) race Modified production rules. The class is limited to solid axle Corvettes, SBC engines, manual clutch transmissions. Sorry no 10,000 rpm launches now, too expensive. But 6000+ and shifting 7500+ common place. Oh, and most of the time these cars are on the street do what comes "naturally" ,if you get my drift. The video is an early one. Now that engine pulls almost 2000 more rpm. Old school rules.

Pete, if you see this, the next time we rent the track you are invited. Jim

BTW, Jim D you have to race with us some day.

Jim although our black cars may look similar I'm afraid yours may give mine an inferiority complex. One of these days though I am sure we will get together.-Jim

Captain Crunch was a 2 door hardtop. I used to see it sitting at a Sunoco station at the corner of Sumneytown Pike, and route 363 near Lansdale, PA. The 55 disappeared, and a Vega Panel appeared...also called Captain Crunch.
