in 83 I remember hearing a rumble. I remember looking out of the garage towards Waldorn rd.(flour Bluff Tx) and seeing this wicker orange coupe drive thru. The noise continued down to a buddy hourse blocks over. His Dad had a 66 427 fairlane. The guy was calling him out. He did a burn out in front of my bud's house and then roared away. So that night the fairlane rolled over the hill by Courpus Christi bay. We dragged when the North gate closed. The coupe was already there. Hiding in the crowd.
The Fairlane rumbled in and the coupe fired up and pullled up to the line.
The crowd went silent. These two cars lined up. One guy flagged them for the start and they roared away. My bud said it was a tie. They just keep running. Never saw that coupe again.

For me it was the '33-'34 Fords. Thats what really got me going, but the likley hood of ever finding an unrestored/hot rodded one are non-existent almost. The ones that are fetch a very very pretty penny if in any decent shape.... so.

Much the same with the '28-'32 Fords.
    Agreed!

  9. Heres a couple more that do it for me.
The roadster pickup is an early kiwi rod from Christchurch, built around the early 70s, and the Essex was built in Cobden in the early 80s.

92573917.gif Just for the miles it was driven, and keeping the spirit of Paul Horning and Baskerville alive, this does it for me.

Strange...Just had this conversation at a Cruise this week. To some it's like the definition of a "Street Rod" though in reality there is only one real definition. John Force likes to call his Funny Car a Hot Rod. I've heard other race cars referred the same way. Some say any modified from stock makes it a Hot Rod. ( Really..a tuner?) But I guess you have to go back where it started...Early, Modified and Fenderless.

The car next to Coles is his buddy Brian Dean. Those coupes put on quite a show at the Fremont drags back in the eightys.

This is what a lot of us used to believe the definition of "Hot Rod" was back in the old days.

I remember the orange blown 34 being at Fremont a few times during the 80's but I don't think it made any runs or it wasn't that fast (my memory is slipping). I remember all of the real compitition Cole and I had but not him ever running so he must have been no compitition to us or I would have remembered.

PS: Hey Marty, you going to speedweek?

I think Jimmy Shine's coupe is the ultimate, but that's already been posted. I don't know if this qualifies as a true hot rod, but to me a hot rod is something bad ass, and this is pretty bad ass.[IMG]
