I WAS BORN IN 76, i grew up with musclecars. but i think Hotrod applies to anything souped up siginifcantly and is American. from an 89 Iroc 383 stroker..one my favorites. to my current 59 BBC Apache. "traditional" would be pre 50's in my book and most 50's stuff. ps i hate tthe term "ratrod"...it generally means junk. but i first heard this in the vw scene.

I GOT MY DRIVERS LICENSE IN '76 and I also grew up with those.... Z/28's, big block anything Novas..Etc, etc.... We still had Premium leaded fuel to burn.. Fun times back then.. :)

There are only 2 that define the term for me...they are a standard to what all else should branch of to become or become inspired from. Even though there are fine examples of hot rods out there, these two make the definition a standard.
Here is a coupe and a roadster That define it for me.
It must be loud, it must either have a modified flathead or a ridiculously modified flathead. It must be an early ford. It must have bias ply tires, it must NEVER! Look like it came from the factory that way! No matter how much time you spent at home modifying it. And above all it must haul ass through hell and back. It must outrun the devil at any given moment and it must look amazing doing it! Every time from now until eternity.
    Yup...that's about right.

Here's my definition of one, although it's not finished. It's got a blown Cadillac flathead.
