Twin6, that surely smacks of "'50s blue-collar family" to me.
    Somebody's birthday, too!:D GREAT shot, man.

Twin, I had to reach W-A-A-A-A-Y back and strain my brain, but I think that
youngest kid making his best goofy face for grandma's camera (like, WE
would ever DO that??? Naaah!) is playing his birthday-present Mickey
MouseGuitarJr, making this photo probably 1957. I had one of these! It
had four nylon strings and plastic tuning keys, but I could never play shit
on it, in part 'cause it wouldn't stay in ANY sort of TUNE!! Hell, with the in-
vasion of plastics in the '50s, the U.S. was already on the path to doom!
(Where's DueceDon when I need a partner to help me rant? Huh?:p) It
wasn't the economy, unemployment OR crooked elected officials! It was
    PLASTIC, my friends!

But, anyway . . . instead, you could crank a little crank on the side, and it
would advance a rubber belt inside and play a mechanism that was, I
suppose, a cross between the innards of a music box and player piano.
It played the THEME from the "Mickey Mouse Club," so it was very timely
fun, play it fast or slow!

Please forgive the non-vintage photo below, as my GuitarJr got the Pete
Townshend treatment:cool: at some point! That's a more recent repro of the
'57 original. Notice Club Leader Jimmie Dodd's pic? Under that is a '60
Christmas pic of a future Clapton-wannabe, playing a bigger Mick guitar,
made more like the real thing. Cool pic!

(Hell, I haven't had this much fun since we dredged up Jimmy Jet! Darn,
but the Way-Back Machine surely comes in handy on this thread, eh?!?:D)

These photos, are all from my mom's collection. My Grandfather took many photos, back in the 1920s, 30s, 40s.
He had his own garage and repair, Ames, N.Y. In the back, of the garage, a pool hall!

Kids pumping gas, I'm sure that would be outlawed today!

Now this is a favorite picture, the man in the car, owned the local store. Note the beautiful (and I do mean beautiful) chrome wheels. Anyone care to guess the make of the car?

Just for fun, this Chevelle is from 1977, my first trip out of N.Y. state, to Florida. Check out that whip CB antenna!

Camping, 1930s style. Again, my grampa and grama and others. could be 1940s, from the looks of the car.

Grampa and his son, (my late uncle Paul) working on an old style tractor.

From Ames N.Y. This local man, gave his life in WWII. A sad time for a small town.

    I think he's holding his sister's hand.

Now that is a lost art!

I took photography in high school and in college.
Learned how to develop and print my own pictures.
I was going to buy my own darkroom equipment, but then came marriage and kids and had no room for it.

Recently saw a complete set for sale at an estate sale.
And couldn't help thinking that now you probably couldn't even buy the chemicals anymore, let alone film!

I have 4 expensive 35mm cameras..........and various lenses and attachments.
All sitting unused now due to digital cameras.

MrQuadratic, NICE slate of really touching and/or nostalgic
and sentimental photos there! God bless your Mom for saving
them. And, WELCOME to the HAMB and this thread. More
stuff like that, and you could get pretty popular here!

Oh! And DueceDon! If folk'd only leave us to our designs, we
could save the Free World, eh?:D (Or, at least the U.S.!)

these are pictures of my father that my 1/2 sister recently shared with me. Dad was born in 1926 and fathered his last child (the 1/2 sister) in 1976. Dad was a rounder........to put it nicely.

I have no clue what the car in the top pic is but I know the hood has been removed and that the plug wires are visible. The bottom pic includes a stuffed horse and hand color tinting, chromographs I think they were called.

Hot and cool at the same time, there are thought to be
only about 30 of the '56 Pacesetter 'verts still in existence
out of about 300 built. The two built for use at the '56
Indy 500 had all the Adventurer HD equipment. I do be-
lieve both of those Pacesetters still exist, and one seems
    to get shown pretty often.

I've been designated as the "Keeper" of our family's photos and am still experimenting with our scanner.
Many more to follow (if this comes out ok anyways).

Q - thanks for all the great pix. It sure looks like they made a car radiator into a space heater for the garage (upper left). Check the plumbing and fan. Now that's shade tree engineering HAMB'ers can identify with. Hats off to those who made do with what they had!

It's none of those that show and I have no idea of how to find it. It was a 'way back there somewhere.
