great job its coming along!

 

I finally got back in the shop ! Continued fitting the new dash.

In the beginning I found and bought a 1946 Chevy pick up dash



I rough trimmed the ends and stuck in in the body



The original shape had a Vee in the top to match the windshield in the truck. I first trimmed it flat and roughly the width i needed





There was also a hole for the window crank that had to go.....



so I fit a piece to blend the beads



I moved to the ends making a template to visualize the top corners



then made some filler pieces





I made a piece to bolt in place of the original dash rail welded blind nuts to it so I can remove the dash if I need to in the future...I cannot find a picture of just the rail mount but here it is on the dash



the bolts go thru the original locations just drilled out



here you can see how the dash transitions to the mount piece



I need to do the final welding and metal finishing but here it is for now





I have yet to decide on gauges. I am leaning toward Classic dual gauges on either side of the speedometer. If so I will fill the original hole and make some tunnels to mount them.

I am enjoying this thread. I am going to be doing a '29 A coupe on deuce rails, with a 392 hemi in about a year from now. ...lots of planning to do and all of the A on Deuce rails postings are helping me a lot.

Thanks for the kind words on the progress. I started mounting the steering column so I can figure out what I need for u joints. I am using a Limeworks 40 style wheel and column. I also tried out a three gauge panel that came with the dash. Still not sure of the final instrument configuration....







Mocked up the engine with a head and stuff to make sure I had plenty of clearance.

If we are voting... I say with the hood top. I REALLY like the dash!

 

Your dash is kick ass!! I really like where you seem to be going.

 

the hood top pulls the grill shell to the body and makes the car look as one complete unit

 

The fun continues. The next step is to have the body media blasted to give me a clean foundation for doing the body work.

I rolled it into the sun to get a better look at the profile





I found the rear pan has major rot



There was over an inch of nasty looking lead behind the center brace. Oh well it is now on the floor



Next stop media blaster.....

 

Tim, your thread is an inspiration to me to get after my 30 coupe , to be built along the same model A - Duece setup, I will need to save your build to refer to when I need to flow the juices some more , Great looking build,Thanks ,,,Sam

 

Thanks for bringing it to the top!! I missed this build. Nice stance, chop and I think it's cool you are running the Model A grill!! Now that's thinking out of the box!! LOL

Fine caftsmanship. I believe that I remember your wb coming in at 107" is that right?
My plan is to take my 28 Tudor to 108"....but I don't want it to get looking oddball.
