Gary, I just checked that, and it's a blast. Looks like Mardi Gras meets "Romancing the Stone'! LOL. Or, maybe they're the Philippine version of r--rods! Shudder! If nothing else, they're COLORFUL and useful. Problem was, I couldn't find any VINTAGE pix beyond the one by WingNutz, just more recent Jeepneys. Thanks for the "education" AND the laugh!

I had noticed that things had slowed down here but just considered that spring is here and people are out and about.

I wonder if these guys are boasting up the 'push marks' on the grilles of their patrol cars.
...Officer Pusser seems to be making light of his bent up grille.

"That particular dent is from when I pushed that damned pharmacists kid off the big curve on 7 bridges road"

"Why Hell Yeah Buford, I remember that one, the kid rolled dam near 20 times down into the gorge"

The movie 'the California Kid' was written about this kind of practice.
I guess they still do it but today they call it 'The Pit Maneuver' and the practice is a little more controlled.

I'm not sure if Buford Pusser 'went out' pushing bumpers or not,
but the dents in an early cop cars grilles probably weren't from getting donuts,
not saying that there's anything wrong with that

    I wonder if he'll take $200 and a 56 Desoto in trade?

Glad you had some fun. Panama and the Phillipines were just a few of the places I've visited in the Navy that had wierd vehicles. If you need more, try custom motorcycles or trucks from Japan. You haven't lived until you've seen a cafe racer with tail pipes 8ft in the air, or a custom painted, fully muraled dump truck. Gary

  15. Doesn't fit the thread but here's a Jeepney that a HAMB'r "SpeedBarrons" owns..

LOL, that's some funny stuff, and I know we got a tad off T (though the ORIGINAL "Jeepneys" go back to '45). Cool (and vintage) little chapter of auto history, I'd think! THANKS, guys.

  17. I thought I'd seen one too. It was pink and white with a soft scalloped top.

Yeah, I have a lot of ads in my trove, but I missed buying that one, thinking it would show up again. It didn't.

And I have never seen a '49/'50 Jeepster like that in reality, either at a show or on the 'net. But THANKS, CustomCab! Now I know I haven't gone completely around the ol' bend!

My old hang out corner of Sawtelle Blvd & La Grange in West Los Angeles.

My friend Kervin's grandfather and dad owned the place, it was where we learned and broke lots of stuff.

Kecthie's Stand was the spot, burgers, tacos, chili tamales etc. until a drunk took it out!

Well....after an exhaustive 2 minute search, I can't find a thing other than this CJ model that is in the "Surrey Gala" trim. But I KNOW I've seen a Jeepster in that trim too.

There was a Jeepster used for resorts that had a stripe binnacle top but I believe that they were built by a custom shop.

However the Jeepster offered by Willy's after WWII did have a canvas or convertible top like the one below...
