The club put on its own show at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds in 1959 and I think George may have photographed some cars there?
I agree ... that appears to be the "EXHIBITION HALL" building @ the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton:
I just got a photo from chop32. This is a Club Participation Trophy given to the SWANX by the Satans Angels. Thanks to Gunar for adding to the history!
Thanks to you, Ron, for this thread...you guys have an amazing history! Glad you could re-size the picture to make it useable.
Hey Ron, it was good meeting you down in Santa Maria. Would love to get you out to the shop sometime. Hope your enjoying the DVD. Take care
Thanx Ron, a treat to see this all together. It really stirs the nosalgia stuff in me, a great feeling. History is so sweet of this type quality. Appreciate it a bunch. ~sololobo~
Rick, I enjoyed meeting you in Santa Maria and I will come out to your shop in the next couple of weeks. The DVD was AWESOME!!!!!You need to post some of that footage on the H.A.M.B.....Thanks Again. RON
Don't know why I am compelled to go to the site of old photos but I am. Went down yesterday to Oakland to see if any of the buildings that are shown in the pictures are still. Sadly all the flat top housing projects and the old exhibition building were demolished for Laney College. The Parking lot where they were parked is now a tennis court (first photo.) The building in the background with the domed window is still there and is the Oakland Public Schools District office (Second Photo.)The lower longer building next to it is still there and looks to be storage but the third square building with the high pitched roof behind the palm trees is gone and some ugly flat top portable looking buildings are in its place. All the trees and bushes have grown so much over the years If you could get to the location of the old photo was taken you couldn't see anything in the background but that. Had a great time last night at the Elios Restaurant get together. Met some present Angels. Wish Ron could have been there. Get well soon Ron. I'll see you next time. Gary
Sorry the kids I brought were getting restless. Next time I come down I'll stay longer and you can scan those photos in if you want to.
BTTT any info on the San Jose Throttle Kings? They are another club I've always wanted to know more about. Rad thread!!
Here is a plaque for the Throttle Kings ..... and there are a bunch more clubs on the San Jose page.
Interesting thread... The cars are the primary attraction, but I love the club jackets and historical images.
That is FIRME see those old pics...and to see the club is still active today is VERY impressive!!! Thanks for sharing the clubs history...
Here are a couple more pictures that I really like, not for the cars, but for the era they represent. At the early Oakland Roadster Shows, trophys were presented to the owners, and a professional photo was taken in front of the entry. In the earlier years the trophy was given by a highway patrolman ,and by the mid fifties Trophy girls were used. Check it out, this is 1955. Frank Livingston Ted Leventhal And yes.....The Trophy Girls were twin sisters, Mary & Martha!
Not just GREAT Ron.............................."SUPER GREAT POST" Thanks ! Sweet Memories, Are Made of This Smoke'
I thought it would be cool to add a little more to the Satans Angels story. In the early days, a lot of the members cars were customized at Joe Bailons shop in Hayward Calif. The building is still there, and is still being used as a Body Shop! I stopped by today to take a couple of photos. Here is a shot of the shop in the early 60's...... Here is the same shop as it appears today.... And here is the best part , some fifty-plus years later, the Satans Angels logo is still inscribed in the cement driveway!!!
