I was trying to think of a different way of mounting a shifter,and I thought of using a push button off a Chrysler,but after talking to Steve Magnante(nice guy) this would prove to be almost impossible, without using the push button torque flite trans.so I found a dash shifter off a mid-60's Dodge Sweptline ,seemed a little flimsy looking.finally modifying a Hurst shifter.Has a knob from tacki-tiki.Anyone else do this? I'll post more pics when I finish the opening.
ive had that same idea, just havent used it yet. i had a few a100 vans with the shifter on the dash and now i have a 55 plymouth that has a similiar set up from the factory. really kool!
Very cool! Different and functional and still somewhat commonly boneyard available! I like it! Personally, I'm more of an Edsel "Tele-Touch" 'push-button, steering wheel-hub-mounted shifter' kinda guy, but.... Mart3406 ====================
Thanks ,I thought of the Edsel setup but I'm set on this cool wheel getting restored right now.I'll try to get some more pics as things progress.with work and some health problems it may be a few weeks.
I used the 60's dodge setup in my 36 chevy pickup. Knob comes out from underneath the dash. I will try and post some pics later on.
I have been looking at this because of the limited floor space in my pickup. I have the same shifter and was also looking at a column shifter cable or linkage for the same reason.
The only thing good about the Chevy Corvair was the automatic shifter in the dash.Small and worked good.
