I wish it was pre-'74, someone else pre-80. Who cares, respect the rules. These are the BEST drool-worthy drag racing archives on the planet.

    ok, the pictures not funny

  12. Red Gobel was quite the character up here in the Northwest, was called the "old man" way before he was even in his 40's. Several years ago bought a photo of him running a rear engine (inline 6) homemade digger while running at Shelton Drag Strip in the 50's. The best part the car was using old Ford spoke front wheels, a long shifter handle running from the modified 3 speed forward along side the engine to his raised right hand as he watched the flagger ready for his run. The photo was taken from his right rear. Sadly Red passed away several years ago.

  13. John Wenderski's beautiful car was known as the "Black Beauty".

  14. My mind was wondering when I placed that quote about Widow, "Black Beauty" she was and rightfully called.

How about Mickey Thompson's Dragmaster Dart with Jack Chrisman in the seat.

Well it took a few weeks but I just got through all 1300+ pages of this thread . What memories ! Thanks to all for the contributions . For me , the mid 60's to mid 70's were the best years of drag racing . I still prefer front motor dragsters ....I know , I know , rear engine is faster safer etc .
My best race was the 5 days at 1971 Indy Nationals ....camped ( tented ) nearby at Harvey Troxel's farm/campground .....ate at nearby Brownsburg Burger King for 5 days . The 1000 mile round trip from Southern Ontario was well worth it .
