U.S./Austrlia Seat Exchange

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Bubba Kirby's Rod Shop, Jun 5, 2011.

  1. The other day I was doing something on my coupe and climbed in and sat down on the passenger side. I thought “Man this side of the seat is a whole lot better than the driver’s side”. We all know that if we use an old original bench seat that the driver’s side will have seen a lot more wear. Well this got me thinking. What if the rodders in Australia have the same problem but on the opposite side of their seats?
I think that we should start a seat exchange program with Australia. What do you guys think?

Won't work. Not only are their seats switched left-to-right, but they're upside down.

Yep. I'm sure it would be cheaper/ easier for both parties to just have their own seat re-sprung rather than ship it around the world.
Also, we would only have a fraction of the different seats you have.

But thanks for thinking of us!

Car-Line Mfg. in Beaumont TX and Snyder's Antique Auto Parts in New SPringfield OH make new seat springs for Fords as stock inventory items and will make seat springs by other original samples or drawings.
Using original worn-out stuff is a waste of time, money and comfort.

I think this is just more proof that having the steering wheel on the left is just plain wrong.

  10. Only work if the fella you swap with didn't have a fat girl friend.

seems to me that it would be cheaper to mend the springs. but what do i know.

I think you have WAY TOO much thinking time on your hands !!

  15. We also drive around upside down, so our hood lining's wear out before our seats

I wonder....my drivers side mirror has been looked at a lot over the years.
Could I send it to OZ and get one from there? It would be from the left side of their car and not stared at as much as one from up here....

Just find an orca-betty to wear out the other side to make it all even.

Really, just get it resprung. Just getting something with rust on it into this country is a major environmental impact statement and fine waiting to happen. I'm not kidding.

The water in the toilet also goes in the opposite direction when flushed. True story. :D

Not a problem. We don't have fat chicks in Australia.

  25. I want to thank all those who responded. The interest in this has been overwhelming both here on the board and in the 100’s of messages and e-mails that I have received. For those that asked about swapping doors and door hardware I think that there is a real opportunity there as well. I am still trying to work out the logistics for the first exchange but it looks like a shipping container is the best option.

  26. Any updates on this program?

When I sat the title of this post, I was hoping that you wanted someone to exchange places with you, you know, you drive my car here for a while and I come over there and drive yours for a while. That kind of seat exchange.

  29. How are going to adjust it? Have your passenger pull the lever?
Shipping costs are a deal breaker.

  30. It's this kind of incite that will keep rodding alive for years, kind of like asking who's going to fill there shoes!
