    You know what is really funny about that question is that before 1962 and the introduction of the 327 there were a number of tri-5 Chevies in this area running Pontiac 389's or Nailhead Buicks.

    I wonder that if in the late 48's and early 50's if guys were asking if there was any engine out there to build except those bellybutton Ford Flatheads that everyone seemed to have.

    When I was 12 and got started reading Hot Rod I thought most of the cars in the magazine (1958) had Offenhauser engines in them because almost of the engines in the cars had heads with Offenhauser on them between the chrome head bolts and fins.

    Hmmm?? Makes ya' wonder too....what
    did HAMBERS back in the '30's do when
    they wanted to 'get back to their roots'
    and build a real 'old-school-style'
    "traditional" rod??? Hopped-up Stanley
    or White steamers with oversize boilers,
    cranked-up burners and tied-down safety
    valves. maybe? Or cammed and blown,
    'barn-found' "gasser-style" curved-dash
    Oldsmobiles, fitted with 'gennie NOS' or
    'repo' white"Non-Skid" Firestone
    'big & littles':)eek:)(!) - or channeled,
    sectioned and slammed 'radical custom'
    Ford 'Model N's'??!!:eek::eek::D:D
