Remove "A" crank Nut

    anybody know how to remove the crank nut on 4 banger model A?

    If in the car I've used an impact wrench with a trimmed down socket and a 1/2" drive extension run through the crank hole.

    This is how i do it, but i think i use a VW axle nut socket. if your trying to replace the pully and its a one piece you will need to jack up the motor to get it out.

    That VW 36MM is about the same as 1 3/8 original...if no technology, just put on a breaker bar and smack it sharply counter clockwise with a mallet to loosen nut without just spinning the engine.

    Sometimes just one good smack in the wrong direction helps... don't go Incredible Hulk on it, just a good whack.
