It was Buddy Whitaker who ran the car in the pool on Meandering Way. I know who he was racing but I won't tell who that was. If you ran in our group you know who it was. Wilke had a black 70 Cuda, fast m.f.

Brings back good memories, had a lot of fun in my old Mopars. Bruton bottoms, Forest Ln. Dowdy Ferry, Crawford Park, Emerald, White Swan, Harry's Hot Rod Buckner, even I-20 in the middle of the night a few times. I'm going to have to check it out this weekend.

BTW, if remember right Wilke ran a junky 383 with 12.5 to 1s, ported 915s and a lot of juice.

I think I saw that Desperado Mustang at Cedar Creek a time or two. If I remember right it was good for 6.40's or so in the 1/8, correct? It was impressive back in the day.

6.40's wouldn't get it with wilkes cuda , my roadrunner was faster than the 6.40s and I have been in Kims car and mine wouldn't make the cut .
That was good times and yes Kim ran 383s and some parts he even got from me . I have a pair of his old heads I got from Brian a few months back .:)

BTW-I drive a dark purple 1998 Dakota R/T with a pretty nasty stroker motor on nitrous.

Hey there, that cuda your talking about was like a beer can, look in the tail light & see out the headlight, & had to be towed everything, on the other hand that mustang that came from mckinney was bad to the bone. There was alot of fast cars that ran around on buckner 70s-80, then people get married & move away.Kellers will be alot of fun this friday & forest on sat. so dust off your memories & hot rods see you there.

I grew up right off of High Meadow Dr., one block east of Webb Chapel..i remember when I was around 10 or 11, back in 1977, by dad would take us down to the corner of High Meadow and Forest on Friday and Saturday nights. We would bring lounge chairs and hang out and watch all the muscle cars race. I didnt get to start cruising until 1982 when I was 16. By then, the new law passed and they lowered the speed limit to 30mph from Crestline to Webb Chapel. They also put up NO U TURN signs to make people have to drive farther to turn around. I'm a 1984 graduate from WTW and I thank forest lane for geting my first LAY!! I am looking forward to Saturday night!!!!!

Well everything went off without a hitch , arguably the best car gathering in years .
It was more of a park and b.s. session than a cruise . I hope for another next year cheers.

Hey Byron, Thanks for the great photos, I think everybody had a great time last night ! I made it home by 3 am, not bad for a Forest Lane Night ! My mom used to say " Don't be late and don't get in trouble out there" 38 years later the wife said the same darn thing...some things never change, Long live Memory Lane.

  23. thanks Byron. it looked pretty cool next to your Max Wedge car...but we all know the baddest of the bad was Dennis's "Memory Lane" bus...it just oozed coolness..

I was there for many races against Kim Wilke. I remember you and Wilke ran once out at the old Greater Southwest Intl Airport. Was about 3am. That black cuda he had was tore up. Anyway, Wilke told me after that race that he knew he was in trouble when he burned out and came to a stop, and you were finished burning out, and you romped it, and he said all he saw was the top of the super trick wheel at his window sill. Those were some of the best days and nights of my life back then. I had a camaro with a David Key built 454. I raced many a night at Emerald and the airport. Those were great times! Many night we never slept, just pulled all nighters working on engines.

*edit* Almost forgot...I was there mid 70's to about 80. I remember Mike Minette had a street legal dragster he would drive on Forest lane. I remember seeing fuel Altereds, pro stock nova's, Anglias, bad-ass cars on the street back then. Kim Barr, Joe Buckanan, Buddy Witaker, even Billy Meyer was there. Remember Raymond Beadle had the Blue Max Speed shop on Forest. Holy Cow those really were the days!!

Remember the girl in the 68 L88 black corvette with the bumper sticker..."if you can beat me, you can eat me".

No...Kim Wilke ran a black cuda. The guy you are thinking of who ran a camaro into a fence and into a backyard pool was Buddy Witaker. 68 camaro.

  27. I remember blowing up my tranny the night after that, I bought a 4 speed from him a rock crusher I believe and never saw him again after.

We ran a front engine rail out on Manana one night in the early eighties. It's been a long time but I think we ran Frank Kohotek's Camaro that night. I remember whoever it was did about 5 burnouts trying to get us hot.

There used to be a white '66 Charger with a tunnel rammed Hemi and a gear drive that had to be the most wicked sounding car around back then.

Anyone remember the Parker Bros. Trans Am? That car was a real sleeper.
