    I don't think it's a '42. Their fender trim was skinny up and down. So it's '46-'48.

It's definitely a 1942 Mercury coupe. Can't tell which model. Henry made 718 model 29A-77 Sedan coupes that did not have a back seat. He made 4942 1942 mercury Sedan Coupe model 29A-72 which did have a back seat. The Model 29A-77 had narrower door than the model 29A-72. Also the Model 29A-77 had a roofline that sloped more at the rear than the Model 29A-72. Both had the same 204.6 in. wheelbase.

What I meant by this is that the double chrome strips on the fenders of a '42 are both skinny, upper and lower. The combination as on the pictured car, with a skinny upper strip and a heavy lower strip, was used '46-'48.

I believe that I have seen the short-door coupe body style in the postwar model years, but I have no evidence for this.

 :) Shouldn't it be 118" if I remember right. Mercury's were longer than Fords 118" -vs- 114".

That's a pretty radical chop but just nice in my opinion..... Needs a slight altitude adjustment- TAILDRAG!!

50Fraud: You are correct. The fender stainless clinches it. I retract my statement that "It is definitely a 1942 Mercury coupe." Well done.

  11. Mercury had a car model 114 as in 114 inch wheelbase.

The grille frame is a '46-'47. '48 was chrome plated and didn't have the little teeth on the outside edge.

The grille center looks similar to a '42, but is more likely fabricated.
