A '39 Ford Tudor sedan standard. All original, and ran like a top with a Flatty V8. Asking price on a car lot in Rantoul Il. was $1,000. I was stationed in the USAF next door, and the credit Union was ready to make the loan. I would have had 2 weeks to drive it cross country to Seattle, but I didn't know enough about the engine to trust it would make the trip. Plus I doubted I would be able to find parts if I needed them. Wish I had the HAMB back then

  4. HURTS TO THINK ABOUT IT NOW!
My 1962 Chevy 2dr ht. White with red interior. A 327 with factory 3 on the tree! Car almost like new. I threw on a set of classice torque thrust style mags and it looked so good! It was 1968 and I was in college. Hurts to think about it now! What was I thinking? To me it's just more proof of the INSANITY afoot in the '60s!

  5. 1950 hudson, 4 door, straight 8, PERFECT body that just needed interior. 800 bucks.

In the late '80s we had a tech rep from SoCal come to Virginia for a job. While telling him about my '56 F100 yard art he mentioned that he knew where 5 stock, still in the box SOHC 427s were back in California. They were for sale for $500 each. I didn't know much about them and had no money anyway, but had I known then what I know now I'd have done whatever it took to get one of them. Dammit Jim!

I bought this 32 Vicky in 1986 for twelve grand, had to sell it later because of mortgage problems at the time. This car just sold in Northern California for over seventy five grand a couple of months a go.

of course there were others, but these hurt the most.

I have a chance now to buy a decent 39 Ford deluxe coupe, and even though the economy says i shouldn't, i don't want this one to get away.

Oh MAN! Yea, I have let a few of those opportunities slip past! Man, one time this girl I was living with, her younger sister was staying with us for a couple days, and when my GF was out, she came downstairs wearing NOTHING but a mans dress shirt, sat down beside me on the couch, and pulled her feet up, it was all there ready for the taking... But NO, silly me, I figured "man, if I do this, all hell is gonna break loose...And her sister broke up with me a month later! Shoulda, woulda coulda...

A 50 Merc Woodie. Ran like a top. Bought it from a junk yard in Sun Valley for $100.00 Some lady just drove it in because it was overheating (bad thermostats).

1957 Nomad. Bought it for $75.00 from Boxley Auto Wrecking in Sun Valley. I sold them both when I joined the Navy in 1969 for peanuts.

Many years ago, I was looking through a junkyard and at the end of a row was a pile of engines. One of them was a SBC with Studebaker script valve covers. Shoulda bought those covers just to hang on the wall!

Not a HAMB approved vehicle, but it was a '70 GS 455 convertible. Bought it cheap in the early 80's and sold it cheap. Probably a $30,000 vehicle in todays market. That's about 10 times what I got for it.

  22. A Datsun Z manifold with 3 Weber sidedaft carbs at the local, little swap meet. He was asking $50 or $60 and for some dumb reason I didn't snatch them up. I really didn't know anything about Webers, but still. Next time I saw him, he told me he had sold them that day. I asked if he knew they were worth a lot more, and he said something like, "Yeah, I do. I bought them for a Z-car I used to race. I just wanted to sell them".

SO many over the years it hurts to even think about 'em. I just can't bear to make a list for fear I'll be on suicide watch.

  26. The girl I was engaged too, in College...

  27. When I was young and dumber I had a 38 Plymouth Business coupe that had an old 413 in it. I pulled the motor to put a 440 in and sold the 413. Didn't know until long after I sold it for $200 that the 413 was worth a bit more with the stage 1 heads and early Ed Pink parts.

  28. Split Window Corvette, for $1800.oo, in 1972. Young man was going in to the army.

  29. I can relate, around that time I was 18, my brothers friend rolled up in his 62 Corvette, it was Sateen Silver with a Honduras Maroon painted cove, not 62 correct but it looked good with the front raised with I beams, 3.5 Ansens and 8" Ansens outback. Two tops, 327 4-speed. Ok, John says Greg I'm gonna let the Vette go and you have first choice as John knew how much I was into those cars. Ok how much ,$1850:eek:. I ran in the house, my Dad had just passed away so I asked Mom about it. She said how much does he want for it, I replied only $1850, she looked outside and said nice car, how much do you have? I said $950, She said I guess you can't get it then!:(. Well probably best as I would have wrapped it around a tree, back then hi horse rocketships with drum brakes, beer and 18 was not a good combo. well i have two today to make up for it and a picture of the Maroon coved 62 to talk about and John still calls ;):).
