This 51 mercury came in for a chop a few years ago,all he wanted was for me to chop it and spot weld it in,he wanted to finish all the welding and bodywork...
Looks good, how did you get the rear of the top to line up to the rear window section without cutting the rear window loose and tilting it forward. there is usually a change in angle where it attaches to the lowered top.
The car looks awesome. Im so stoked that the original real window stayed with it. It flow really nice.
The chop flows real nice. I do have a question about the back window. It looks like you tilted it forward without moving the bottom edge. Will the stock glass still fit or will it need special glass ?
By looking at it. The stock glass should fit. They braced the window opening before cutting it out. It looks like they did what was done on the Hirohata mercury.
I had to look at the photos about three times though and back and forth to figure out how you did the back window surround area. That's pretty slick in it's self. That turned out as a very nice chop. Is the car car finished now or is he still working on it? It proves that you don't have to over chop one to have it look great too.
I ended up doing a mild chop,i think it was 2 1/2 and 3 in the rear,i cut around the beltline and left 3 inches in the beltline uncut and just layed down the window....I think this is the max you can go with out having to modify the edges of the back window
thanks, yeah the back window still fits, just had to modify right below the corners ,any more would have required some more work,i did cut around the belt line and left 3 inches uncut..theres a filler piece inbetween the roof and rear window section
she's the daughter of the guy selling cars out of that lot. i bought a Grand Wagonner from that lot when that's all they sold yrs ago.
Thanks man....you know what, all i know is that he finished the chop and started a front clip, then got a 58 impala conv for his wife that i did a bunch of metal work on(pics soon)
