School me on the '60s gasser style clam seats. Are they the fiber glass buckets, is there a company reproducing them? Help me out. Post all the pictures you got.
    Thanks fellas

  7. Here is a JC Whittney seat. I got a pair of them NOS from Shoe (AKA Triumph Terror). I had covers made for them but still have the original covers never run.

I believe you can still get them from Whittney. I'm pretty sure that don't sell them in Glass anymore, they would be extruded plastic.

  8. Hot Rod chassis and Cycle is getting them in fiberglass from somewhere, but the backs arnt gell coater like the originals. There is a set on e-bay under composite molded seats right now, but thay have the inside gell coated instead of the backs.

2 minutes with a sawsall {to chop the head rest off} on a cheap plastic jegs or summit seat and sew a seam across the top and you have what looks like a old fiberglass seat.I see them at swap meets all the time for $20.00 or less. Thats what was in my 55 so i just cut the ugly part off......

Depending on what you're looking for, Kirkey now makes a "Vintage" low back seat.
I've got one of their drag seats, but didn't like the tweed upholstery they came with so I got them to whip up a pleated vinyl seat cover for it.

These are set of JAZ poly seats. Their very comfortable, but in a small car they take up alot of space. The nice thing about these seats the're easy to mount. You don't need to make a frame like a fiberglass seat.

I found these older fiberglass seats for $50 locally. The color is actually more maroon than brown. The headrests seem a little 70's, and I'm shooting more for a 60's race interior, but these would be a lot better than the random cloth buckets already in there.

The question is: are these seats too interesting or precious to someone doing a 70's build to worry about chopping the headrests off and sewing up the seam on the cover or are they a dime a dozen?

    Thanks.

I used a set of old Corvair buckets that a fellow swap meeter told me he was not loading up at the end of the day (free) and really liked the look after my upholsterer fixed them up ( not free)

They're pretty common seats, but you can find seats like them without the headrests if you look around.

  29. Exactly
They have been selling those seats since the '60s that I know of.

It is what I have for my project.
