Hey guys, I just brought home this 58 T-Bird. The PO built the car for his wife in the early 90's, poured a ton of money into it(20K according to him). New Painless wiring, new 390, new c6, new paint, new chrome, new trim, etc etc. She drove the car for a year or two and got sick. She passed away and he placed a tarp ( NOOOOOOO ) on the roof then covered the car with a car cover sometime in the late 90's or early 2000's. I heard from a friend that it was for sale. She told me that according to him it was in bad shape, needed paint and interior. So I went over expecting the worst. WOW, the interior just needs new carpet, and the paint is perfect with the exception of the damage from the tarp being on the roof(the tarp on the roof destroyed the paint there, coming off in big flakes) The car has zero bondo, zero rust, and the car is lazer straight. Engine compartment is very clean other than a little dirt and cobwebs. Even has the original owners manual and warranty card. Cant believe how nice the car was. I have never been a big fan of this body style, but now that I have one I'm starting to reconsider. I think I am leaning to black steel wheels, spider caps, and wide whites. OR black steels, some nice full cover hubcaps, and wide whites and possible painting the roof gold(my idea) or wimbelton white again ( my wife's idea )
Nice car. I vote for using either 59 Lincoln Wheelcovers with wide whites OR Use 57 Cadillac caps with a chrome bullet and wide whites Either way a cool car. I also never cared much for these but of late am starting to like them. Good Luck
Funny thing before I read all the way though the post I thought to myself that would be slick with a metalic gold roof (metalic not metal flake). Those are our favorite Thunder Hawks. Nice looking little car.
