A friend of mine is ready to produce repros of the 60s Astro slotted wheels in several widths, all 15." He's looking for some sense of how much demand might be out there before he makes the final investment in dies. They will be made in an American factory. If you have any thoughts or are interested in a set let me know and I,ll pass it on to him.
How much will they be? and will they be available in the big Ford bolt pattern? 15x4 and 15 x 8 ............5.5 bolt pattern Big Ford
I am in the market for two 15 x 4 or 15 x 4-1/2 wide with the modern Ford 5 x 4-1/2" bolt pattern. Piper106
Back in the late sixties, early seventies, the Astro chrome wheels, were the cheap, undesireable substitute..if you couldn't afford Cragars, U.S. Mags, Ansen sprints, American Mags, etc. Personally I didn't like them, or run them then, nor do I, or would I now. Interesting how times change. To each their own.
If these are what you are talking about..... Then YES!!!!!! My Chevelle is begging for some 8" wide unchromed so I can paint them gold
Second on the price . I would be looking for 5-6" wide , 4/4.5 " bolt pattern . Probably would not be enough call for that combo .
Yep, there was also a time when people used to cut up 32 coupes to make dirt track racers. Yes times have changed. As you stated, to each their own.... Count me in on the 15x4 or 4.5!
--------------------------- They weren't used much on actual hot rods or race cars, but in the early and mid-60's, Astro's were a popular wheel for use on lot's of customs and show cars. On the right kind of car, I like them. Mart3406 ========================
With so many quality alloy wheels like this already available at reasonable prices, why make steel versions? If I wanted this style wheel, I'd rather have some alloy rims available in chrome, to keep the weight advantage. Gary
Yeah, that was definately the sentiment when I started driving. But I DID have a set on the first car I drove, a 70 Maverick Grabber. Maybe someday THEY will be cool, too!
In an alloy I am afraid they would look like an ansen. Nothing wrong with an ansen, infact as stated earlier ansen is the more desired wheel. I frankly like the thinner look of a steel wheel in chrome that I dont think can be created in alloy. I know Bogart used to make an aluminum wheel, but I have seen a fair share of broken Bogart wheels!!
15x6, 15x7, 15x8, 5 on 4 1/2 I'd be really interested in maybe a couple of sets, depending on the price. These were very popular where I live, weren't "undesirable" at all. I've actually been keeping my eyes open for some, with not much luck.
15x10, also! Always liked these wheels. I think they are scarce because Nads scarfed up about 700 sets a while back!!-MIKE 1972, bought the wheels and tires for $35.
I would love a set for the right price. Come to think of it any nice looking wheel in a 5x4 pattern would be a great find!
