can someone help me with an olds question? what year did oldsmobile change the rear suspension from leaf springs to coil springs? i have a differential that came from a leaf spring car late 50's or early 60's but i need to know a little closer.

The question is a little ambiguous! The 1950 Olds 98's had coils all around. Then in 51 they went leafs in the back. IIRC leafs were there till 1961 when coils made it back into their cars.

Back when I had a '49 Rocket and those were the hot setup for rearends in drag cars, you could get the same thing with leafs from a Pontiac. Back to 1940 I think. If you could find a old Pontiac ambulance they had 4.44s.

The OLDS rear end you are talking about are from '57 to '64. The '57 and '58 had leafs. all others are coil spring. They often cut off all the brkts and add leaf spring pads in the 55 to 57 chebbys.
