I have a chance to pick up a 57 olds coupe without an engine. I was wondering if anyone has had the experience of putting in either a olds 350 or 455 and later tranny into a 57 olds. Comments and discussion would be appreciated.
I have a '67 toro 425 engine in a '55 olds... however it is on a '78 cadillac fleetwood frame. There is plenty of room for the install. You will need to frabricate some components but it can be done without alot of work..
Yes, I have a 350 Olds in my 57 88 Holiday coupe. email me at [email protected] for pictures and information, Eric
My students and I installed a 455 olds and turbo 400 in a 55 chevy wagon back in the 90's. No problems. Worked great. It was a tow car for a racecar. Got lots of looks in the pits.
There is a fellow over at Classic Olds. He has done exactly what you want to do. His handle is "Citcapp" check it out, he has a whole story about it. Gene
Here's a pictorial of putting a 385 into Dad's 56 Olds. http://www.detroitspeed.com/projects/jsheldon/jsheldon-pg-1.html
Yes, why not put a 371 Olds with a dual range hydro (not dual coupling type)? Sure the P on the shift indicator would be just going along for the ride! Or bolt a TH400 to the 371 using Ross Racing method.
Well Tony that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Everyone knows that all '50s cars have 235s in them. In my most honest opinion a J-2 is the only way to go, but I can't imagine that the 455 would be a bad idea especially if there is one available. I can't omagine it being a total cluster should nestle in there quite nice. On the otherhand I would just about bet that Tony could hook you up with a screamin' 371 and it would be a bolt in save your headaches for some other modification. Note: this is a shamless plug, Goatroper is the man.
