This shot depicts an era when even weekly bracket/class racing was fun. Diverse cars and simple rules. And the way the cars ran, launching eractically as the driver attempted to keep it straight, all the while banging through the gears. No stutter boxes, and other rules and devices that create boring racing. The last modern event I attended was the Winternationals Friday qualifying session some 3 years ago. That event was to be earmarked as the first drag race since OCIR closed- I got back into local short track racing. I had a freind who was racing super stock. After paying what, maybe 50 bucks to get in, park and have a coke and track dog, I was treated to what drag racing has morphed into today. After he made his run, I told him I had to go as there was a matter of urgency from home. I wished him luck and never returned to the drags.

  14. Great shot.......check out how jammed the bleechers look......looking at that picture you can almost smell the fuel, rubber and hot dogs....lol.

Original Chilly Willy is a high dollar Street Rod, but he also built a beautiful clone of the race car. Race Car is a copy.

Thanks for the interest, for the sake of those who didn't see it 'raced one time too many' Here's a shot of it 'bent' A previous owner was street racing it and obviously it was more than he could handle. Really wasn't as bad as it looked, new nose, roof and I saved the rest...Painted and running as of today...just need to put the interior in, letter it and race the bugs out...Maybe done by fall Musclepalooza. Originally piloted by Lynn Welfringer who owns Mondello Olds today. Former record holder...

Wasn't this car black at one time? Seems like I remember it running at Indys IRP and it being black, always thought running it was like pushing a brick into the wind. Still bad ass ride.

  20. Did you see all the stuff including the backseat by the tree in the photo right above it ? All in the quest to go as fast as you can, then you get to put it all back and hopefully drive home.

Later car would be sold to Val LaPorte and renamed the "All American"

    Yo Baby:

Don't remember to much about the car.

I can tell you it was from Aberden, Md. & it was DeSoto powered.

    Car ran 11.30- 130 mph.

    Thats about all I remember.
