Thanks guys, the grill Is off a similar vintage chevy give or take a year, that one you posted the link is much nicer and of course original so I would be interested for sure.

Pulled the 230 from the old truck and tried it on for size. It fits OK, little trimming here and there and I can fab some motor mounts.

New dilema however, the tranny that came with it is not the T10 I was expecting, its a muncie SM420, which is a big ol brick. 7.05 first gear which is not going to fly so now I need to find a new 4 speed tranny...or possibly a 3 speed, not sure what will fit the bill???
PS found a T10 locally but it must be made of gold...the guy wants $1K...lol

  3. Advice....find a 4 wheel or rock crawling site and post an add....the SM420's are worth there weight in gold down in AZ. The super low 1st gear coupled to a super low geared t-case(adapters sold for this) dropped into a jeep or buggy is the hot set up around here, could make some money back for you.

I did consider that when I was trying to find out about the tranny, the only people with knowledge were the rock crawlers, I just find selling stuff more of a hastle. I am a far better consumer!!
I do like the lines the car has, wait till I reduce that roof height a touch!

Found another potential gear box, 4 speed Saginaw, just not sure their durability, its not like I'm racing it but still hope to produce 200hp some day and 250 ft# torque might cause issues.

Spent last night...till 11:30 fabricating, built mounts for the rad. Sometimes a whole night of fabricating = 1 mount. Doesn't seem right. Well 2 saginaws to look at this weekend, kinda need to find something and thats all that seems to be around.

A '31 Olds coupe and you did that to it ... ???!!!???

You should have restored to 100% stock original ....

.... Ooops sorry wrong website :p

Actually way cool, would be neat to throw an Olds V8 in it later if you are thinking that route. I love the frame, I don't know if it's just a photo trick thing but those frame holes look huge !!!

I'll be keeping an eye on it

You know there was one second where I thought man, this should stay bone stock...but that second passed. No those holes are pretty big, 4" od pipe for the first 2. Its a 6" Deep frame there so lots of depth.

So Motor mounts fabbed, what do you think? I'm trying to decide if this is going to be enough. 1" OD pipe .25 wall.

Theres just something about this car I like. Maybe some day soon if you blow up that 6 bang. Do you think you will drop a rocket in it?

I'm not too sure, will see what the sixer feels like, at 2000# its not going to be hard to get it rolling, a 292 is more likely.
Thanks all, hope to see more progress this weekend, need to get tranny sorted out.

There are so few surviving chevs out there people forget half the cars on the road in 1931 were dual leaf suspension.

So...figured I'd move on to something interesting....mask off the roof, measure a bunch of times....measure again. 4" Drop is what is masked off, with the channel and z done already much more drop than that and I won't fit.

Also dropped the bottom of the back window 1 1/2" to avoid the mail slot. Not much room to do more.

What a cool body on that Olds, love it that it turned out to be an orphan Olds. Fenders or not, it will be very rare and not just another fFord or Chevy hot rod. Get er done. ~sololobo~

Thanks,I think it looks pretty rank now that its only got 9" windows! Finaly shed the sheeps clothing. Talking with Tlowe, seems like 180hp out of that 230 is not as hard of a position as I thought and able to reach with 200+hp utilizing his custom heads!
