My nearly new RJS racing shoes are coming apart. They are a couple years old so they are in perfect shape other than the soles coming off like a banana peel.
I've tried unsuccessfully to glue them back together.

I used rubber cemement - and not sure where I went wrong. I used my tire patch file to roughen the surface, but the glue came right off first time I wore them.

    Any suggestions/tips?

Obviously I can buy new shoes - it's just a shame to toss these otherwise perfect shoes and BTW they fit really really nice. Nice enough to want to fix them, but I hesitate to buy them again if all's I get is a dozen or so wearings out of them.

  2. Barge Cement is supposed to be good. Tandy carries it.

Show-Goo. You can buy it anywhere. Use it outside though, it'll stink up the house.

Correct spelling is Shoe Goo. Cost about 4 to 5 dollars a tube. It works great. I got it in the local hardware store.

X 2 for the "Shoe-goo" used by the people most abusive to ANY shoe --------- Skateboarders.

Also, Shoe-goo is the same thing as Plumbers Goop (purple label, packaged on blister pack) - that is easier to find around here since Home Depot and Ace Hardware carry it. (Made by the same company, same MSDS, looks and acts the same.)

Good ole CONTACT CEMENT. Just did mine a couple of weeks ago. Show no signs of giving up again.

Are these shoes traditional? If so, you will have to nail them on...

I used the 3M weatherstripping adhesive, it was in the top of the toolbox nearby. Then I put the damn shoe in the vise, left it there overnight. Besides the vise-shaped dent, seems to be fine....

I worked with a guy who had a similar issue. He glued the sole to the upper and decided it would be a good idea to put pressure on the joint until the glue tried. The shoe was firmly glued to his desk his foot was firmly glue to the shoe!! Still think it is funny thinking about it many years later

Would using duct-tape being legal/would you be open to it? i've had great success with duct-tape even using it on jogging shoes.
