50dodge4x4, well put. Ya got what ya got, that's the way it is, live with it, whatever. No drama, just facts. Let's be thankful we have this thread still going.

My Dad's cousin, Les Sherman built that # 82 Chevy driven by Tommy Wible shown on page 239. Actually, the picture was taken at Winchester Speedway, at Winchester, Indiana. It is the highest banked 1/2 mi asphalt track in Indiana. the banking in the turns are close to the banking at Bristol, only the turns are wide and sweeping, with the front and backstretch shorter.

Tommy Wible (now deceased) was from Ft. Wayne Indiana, a regular at Baerfield Speedway at Ft Wayne. My Dad's cousin, Les Sherman built and owned that # 82 Chevy. You can go to www.baerfieldspeedway.org click on the Stock Car Hall of Fame link, to view more old time racing photos.

As far as I know, Conan "Moose" Meyers is still living in Fort Wayne Indiana. What he is doing now, I don't know. I do see him from time to tiime at Baerfield Speedway, enjoying the races. Moose was the season track champion there several times back in the day.

Say "Hello" to the Moose for me, Stock Car Fan. I was in the flagstand at Salem the day he clinched the 1977 ARCA championship. I was working mostly with ASA at the time, but was there to watch, and Frank Canale asked me to flag the feature. Moose and Jim Stovall were great friends of mine.

i'm friends with a guy who used to work on this car and i'll ask him this weekend. he rode to the martinsville spring doubleheader in 1976 with dale and teresa in an old chevy pickup towing the car. the car was leading with four laps to go when he ran out of gas.

Hey Stock Car Fan, the shot of the #82 Wible car really was taken at Dayton. Stupidly, I never took a camera with me to Winchester ! Do you think that the Baer Field site would want a copy of the # 82 for their web site ? I'm pretty sure a have a shot of it as a single - no other car in the picture. Let me know....

Stock Car Fan, I'm sure you're right about Winchester's banks being higher than Salem, but I'm almost certain the turns are tighter. I can't find the measurements we took in my ASA days.

I was told that Funk created Dayton, Salem and Winchester with all the same banking degrees. Basically all the same.

He did build them all, and I was told the same thing about the banking degrees. Winchester has tighter turns than Salem, and Dayton's have a slightly longer radius, I believe.

  21. I like the old saying when the green flag drops the bullshit stops. But if you ever drove its when it begins :)

Demo - I love that garage photo - do you know who the original photographer was, or who owns the rights to it? I'd love to use that as a reference for a painting if possible.
