I need to remove the spindles from my Willys axle. Looks like some sort of a pressed in pin secures the kingpin into the spindle boss:confused:. Am I correct? [see attached pictures front and back] Do I proceed to pin punch and beat the snot out of it for removal, or jig up with a drill bushing and drill it out. Am I missing something here? Any help appreciated.
Thanks and have a nice Easter, John

From the pix.,that looks like that's what you have there.Just don't hammer on the big end, but I'm sure you knew that.

X2. It does come out fairly easy, at least the ones I've taken out. Never had an axle that came out of a swamp though. Brother Mike had a farm trailer with a Willys axle and pin came right out.

Thanks all. Did a little wailing on it, no go. Going to put some penetrating oil to it, let it sit then go after it tomorrow night after work. Hey I was smart enough to beat on the small end:p!!!

  7. Try a blunt pointed tip on an air chisel. I've also used a little heat and it never seemed to bother the components. See some king pins on ebay from time to time. Caution...the 33-36 king pins are 5/8 dia., and the later ones are 3/4. I bought one once, not knowing the diameter difference.

It is a soft taper pin. Hammer it out from the rear to the front, and if it wont go, drill it out they're very soft.
