I have a 30-31 coupe body in the mock up stage. My problem is this..I have the doors on the cowl, and the roof screwed to the wood header, and there is a 1'' gap between the roof,(below the drip rails) and the tops of the doors. Is there a piece that somehow goes between? Weatherstripping? Wood? Im going crazy..

Is it possible that my cowl is a four door, and if so,is there a difference? Hinge location maybe? Every coupe picture I can find does NOT have the gap I have.I had a body years ago,and I seem to recall this same issue.Too many beers.

I hate asking questions like this, and Im sure Ill figure it out eventually on my own,but Im just curious if anyone else has run into this problem, and if there is a simple explanation.Im enclosing a few pictures of my car,and hoping it will be visible. If not,Ill get more tomorrow after work.

Something's wrong. Shouldn't be a gap... The top of the door overlaps... Does the windshield frame fit??? Garnish??? Why don't you take a picture where the A pillar connects to the header and the wood over the door??? Here's a pic of mine without the header...

OK, the lower door beads line up with the sill beads, the waist beads line line up with both the cowl and quarter panel beads.
SO, the problem is at the top of the doors. The shiny grey car pics above show that gap between the gutter and the door top so you are missing the sheet metal piece under the upper door opening which holds the rubber wedge bumper towards the rear, see open picture of grey car.

comparing the pics of your doors...
and the pics of the beautiful '31 posted above...

notice the other doors have a line above the window?

it looks like your doors don't have this... and looks like your doors might only be as high as this line is.

EDIT: nevermind. seventhirteen's comment below is right.... just went out and looked at my A doors... that line is the top of the door :D

that red arrow is the top of the door

your cowl is correct, doors are not briggs or murray, looks like your missing the pieces that go above the door, there is a header made of wood that is covered by 2 pieces of metal trim

    here's the inner part

Good thing he didn't also mention a "bonnet" or a "boot". Note where these posts come from when confused by terminology. Intersting that British, and the Commonwealth countries, speak ENGLISH and we, here in the U.S., have our own particular (often peculiar) twist on it. :)

  18. Yeah I know about those but spats were shoes wore many years ago here in America.

  19. they created it.....we perfected it. :D

Can you post up a few pics of the area where the windsheild posts, the roof and the door all meet? A couple of good closeups would help us help you. There are a bunch of pretty good pictures in the build thread I did for the coupe dad & I built. We had the body split the same as yours & had to reassemble & realign it.

Again, more pics would be helpful.

I got it figured out everybody..My doors are Murray 4 door..all steel construction, same width, latch and hinge location, its just that the tops have an arched opening rather than being straight like all the other body styles...They are really nice doors,so Ill just get some coupe or tudor tops and make em fit..ANYONE HAVE ANY THEY WANT TO PART WITH???
