  6. Here's my 66. Wanted to see how quick I could make it while keeping things as stock as possible for that SLEEPER affect. Using cast iron intake, single 4 bbl with single snorkel air cleaner, cast iron heads and exhaust manifolds, TH400 and 3:25 rear gear. At 4200lbs, best ET to date is a 12.71 (and that's without any power enhancers).

Love it! I had a 65 2 door sedan a few years ago. But please do away with the cheesy 'ebay' sticker on the air cleaner. Those were for Buicks. That style never came from the factory on a Pontiac.

lots of clean cars in this thread, but i have a coupla Qs.

1st, what's the deal w/ the OEM 8 luggers? i mean, arethey 2 or 3 piece wheel that actually has 5 lugs under the centercap, or the 8 lugs actualy bolt to the hub?
Plus what year were they produced? i think they look way pretty, its kinda strange to me that they werent used much on customs/lowriders of the late 60s early 70s.

2nd, what size were the LeMans? lets say 64 onwards. are they midsize? it appears so but pics can be decieving.

bonez, the front hubs attach to the spindles just like a 'regular' drum brake hub. the wheels really are held on with the 8 lug nuts around the inner part of the rim...

Bonez, the 8 lugs are a two piece wheel. The center bolts on to the axle flange on the rear but the fronts are spindle mounts. They are cast aluminum over a cast iron brake drum. The wheel rim bolts onto the center with the 8 lug nuts, hence the 8 lug name. I'm not sure why they never caught on for more custom applications except they probably were hard to get and expensive, even used. They are reproducing them now and you can get different sized and and offset rims too. They are looking at casting them without the drake drum so they can be used with disc brakes. Mark L

i went back to take a closer look at this as i rmember seein it.
It explains a lot of thing, so basically the drum slips over the lugs like any car, but then the actual wheel hoop bolts to the drum....its a very weird set up but the ones ive seen on the cars lookin perfect are real sweet.
Front ones are diffrent, you said spindle mount, so if i understand right they are like old drag brakeless front runners that slip over the spindle.
way cool wheels. if i ever get a Poncho w/ these on i'l keep em w/out even thinkin about it.

You mean that 57 is in Switzerland now? its just a few drive hours from me!
I hope he didnt fuck it up w/ digi gauges, billet shit, fat rims and anyother 90s stupid trend!
Maybe in ten years if its for sale and unmolested i will be able to afford it.....aaah the pleasures of daydreamin! :D
