I purchased a 1951 chevy coupe recently with plans to restore it as "stock".
Instead a friend and I discussed making it into a early gasser....so the project begins.
I purchased a 348 engine as the mill for it with the plans to be topped with a tri-power set-up. Backed with a fully syncroed HD 3-speed trans with the final drive of 4.11 in a tri-5 rear. Using the stock steel front sheetmetal, I plan to make it into a full tilt front end.

looks like a good plan. I love those w heads.

  3. You will have MUCH more fun with a gasser than a stock restored vehicle. I can assure you.

i so, so want to build a gasser... started three times; never had a chance to complete any of 'em. '62 comet, '54 chevy, '54 plymouth

a full tilt front on your '51 willl be rad...

  8. i've got a 52 bus. coupe that going to be built into pseudo gasser but it's going to be lowered and radiused rear wheel openings similar to the olds that was on pass time last week. when i first started racing we ran stock height or lowered front ends with ball-joint extensions to increase the front end rise to get better transfer for better traction, i might go with a straight axle but it will be dropped.

Done right, the '50 makes a great nose high car! That 348 is a great start!

Here's some more insperation, I finished this last year for a customer, high dollar build, 987hp (too much for the street in my opinion, scary fast) was fun to build though

  15. Hey wheels up, im having the same issue. Im not sure if I want to build my 50 pontiac coupe as a gasser or a clean mild custom. Either way im sure your coupe will look fine.

Today I removed the front end sheetmetal. The drivetrain is next. I got a moon tank, ladder bars, and a few goodies yesterday for it.
Im looking for a rf fender, a pair of doors and a decent grille if any one has one to sell.

The owner insisted, personally I would have left off the visor, front bumper, rear bumper gaurds and some of the chrome. But when the owner pays for it you do what he wants, couldn't talk him out of it.
