Does anyone know a source for the carpet used in some late fifties to early sixties Pontiacs and Buicks with the tinsel woven in so it has a sparkle to it? Or even What the stuff is actually called? Thanks.

    SMS Auto Fabrics!

    http://www.smsautofabrics.com

I used to own a 1966 Buick Electra (it also had those tinsel highlights) and contacted them about it. They said they would send me two possible samples! A few weeks later I got a letter in the mail with two real fabric samples and one was correct. Keep in mind I'm in Australia.

They have a fantastic website (the last time I contacted them was in 2002) so I did a bit of a search for you and found this page but it's just a start. Spend some time searching and I'm sure you'll find what you are looking for.

Ask them for a sample and they'll probably send you a few just to be sure.

Here's the actual letter scanned and yes those are real fabric samples cut off the roll and sent to me stapled to the letter! I actually came across it the other day when cleaning out some old desks from years ago and when you requested the special material I knew exactly what you needed was at SMS Auto Fabrics.

I have no affiliation with SMS - I just like the cut of their jib.

Or, check out their amazing search facility.
