I found this in my loft today while trying to make room to store some more of my treasures. Any ideas as to what it's out of? It says FEB 57 on the back, and it's a cable-driven tach.
It's not a Corvette (at least not a C1 of any year). Could be a Chrysler letter car, I'm not familiar with that instrument panel layout. My first thought was Pontiac, but I just don't remember any early Ponchos with tachs. I think GM nearly always had red/orange/yellow lines in their factory tachs placed according to which engine (hp) was installed. Could be truck, 6000 isn't a real high number (pretty high though for an era of no roller cams). It's early - someone with definitive info will chime in soon and the HAMB will once again demonstrate its pre-eminence in the arena of parts conundrums. dj
It is mechanical drive made in 57 and labled in english. British sports car? Not AH,MG. Maybe Triumph?
Maybe '55 to '57 T-Bird. The middle number looks like it could be a Ford engineering number. Although Stewart Warner may have made both the Chrysler and Ford Tachs.
Keep the ideas coming guys! I don't think it's from a T-Bird, I looked at a catalog earlier today and it's quite a bit different. I can't find anything on a Chrysler tach.
You, my friend... are my brand new hero! Here's a pic of one I found on the 'net. Thanks! By the way, where are you at in South Jersey? My Pops lives in Sewell
I only knew that because I had one about a year back.... and it took me a week of looking at 1957 dashboard pictures to find out what it was. I am in Williamstown NJ. -Matt
You are definitely right! Thanks again. Do you ever hang out at the Fuddrucker's Cruise-In? I usually get to Jersey about 5 or 6 times a year and I try to make Fuddruckers at least once or twice
Yup, 1957 TURNPIKE CRUISER ~ owned one back in the day! Any more photos of that YELLOW Turnpike Cruiser available to be posted here on the forum? Would certainly like to see some if available. Thanks!
