dropped the aerostar springs in, Cordoba front shocks and 73 camaro shocks out back.

In total, it dropped the front 3 inches over the original ( worn out springs)
and 7 in the rear with 4 inch lowering blocks. It still has a in rake.

It drives out real nice, corners fine and no bumping around.

    I'm running 205 75 15's and the motor is a 302.

A good thread, thank for starting it.

This weekend I'm doing my fairlane the same way.. its running a 390, will be interesting to see the difference.

I used these on my 53 Ford and they work great! Car rides like new and steers better than it did with the cut coils.

  5. Here's a picture of my 1950 with Ford Aerostar coils in front, and 3" lowering blocks in the back with 51 shackles for 1" more drop and one leaf spring taken off.

I put the Ford Aerostar springs on my '59 Ranchero and many hundreds of miles. I like them. Nice and low and they ride better than the stock springs with 1.5 coils cut. Plus they are inexpensive!

The coils improved the ride of the ranchero so much I did the fairlane as well.
My fairlane runs a 390 auto and had a sloppy ride into the corners. That's all cleaned up now. It's 3 inches lower ( 4 inches in rear). Here's a before and after... ( I stuck me in to give an idea of ride height, I'm 6 foot).

If you're thinking of doing it.... do it!

Aerostar coil swere great! Imagine my surprise when the MOnroe PN5821 shock had the wrong mounting plate on the bottom and didn't "bolt in"

    ?????

i've done it, but your def. right either lower the front a skosh more with coils cut or maybe some of them blocks under the spring support. just to make it sit level. instead of back to nose high attitude.

did you cut coils after the swap rafael? i might do that... i think there should still be enough travel and dont think the ride will be compromised... anybody else have any feed back on this?

elrobo, im looking at it now and with the blocks in the back, and the coils (uncut) in the front it still has a slight nose high stance. i think i should have either cut a coil off or perhaps dissasemble the lower control arm coil set (sorry i don't know the nomenclature of that piece) and install 1'' square tubing to lower the nose a bit more that way.
right now the ride is not compromised, i think it could use just a skosh bit more lowering in the front. other than that it rides nice.
    hope it helps

I was looking for some new springs for my 59 and found your post. Was your car a V8 car? Mine was a 6cylinder and will have a period 352 in the next few weeks. The original springs leave some to be desired even with the 6. I don't believe a 352 with an aluminum intake manifold is much heavier then a Y block. :)

Thanks for the great information. I just got done installing the springs and shocks recommended in the first post. A few of the posts above seem to indicate that they wont work on a Merc but they worked out perfect for us. Went for a good 40 mile drive and the ride quality is real good. The rear has 3.5" of lowering blocks. Here are a couple pics.

Yes, we got them at Advance, took only 1 day to get them shipped in.

When you take the old springs out and compare them to the new springs you will say to yourself "no-way" because they are so much shorter. We took the a-arm loose near the center of the car using the four bolts that go through the cross member then lowered the arm with the jack, really easy. I also took the the snubbers off the lower arms.

I have a 49 Mercury with a Jamco ball joint front end on order. will the Aerostar coils be compatable with this kit?
