  3. looks good, why did you radius the corners of the top when you cut the cab corners off. Im about to chop my 53' Dodge pickup and was wondering?

    Cool, love the proportions. I also hope more builds include fenders like this one. Do you you guys mig weld everything or just for tacking?

    thats some nice work right there , outta sight , ,looking at the chop photos , is more informative and a better read than most of the tech ive seen in the car magazines lately

    ok we left off doing the filler piece above the door jamb thats also part of the drip rail we had to hand make this piece so lil dave is the right man for the job

    That is absolutely killer.saw my first Gambino tail dragger install a couple of days ago and now this chop. It's great. Hot rodding is alive and kickin! Thanks for posting it.

    Nice work! The chop looks great and really dig the rendering! Thanks for documenting and posting the process. Alex, what's the cut/welded area above the windshield? Previous repair?

    I too would like to know why the cuts were rounded. Does it have something to do with making the bodywork easier by keeping the contours of the cab rather than welding in sharp angles?

    making the filler pieces for the pass side drip rail and over the door jamb

    heres a shot of the pieces we used to hold things in line for when we made the paturns for the 2 back pieces

    Alex, That chop is very well thought out. You sure had to turn the top into a multi piece zig saw puzzle. It sure is coming together real nice. The owner is one lucky dude.

    rounding the corners of your cuts is much preferable than welding into a square cut corner. The heat from welding travels more evenly into the surrounding metal and you are less likely to end up with metal 'pulling' into a lump. Its a little more work but the results pay off when time to metal finish the panel.
    I always try to round off corners of cuts (wherever poss ) for this reason, PB

    Man there is a ton of work in that chop. Thats the perfect thread for people who always ask why a chop cost what it does. A lot of time and effort. As always you guys make it look easy.

    beautiful work and great detail.ive been putting off choppin the top on my 49 but now i believe i can do it. had a idea how to do it but your post and pics answered a lot of questions for me.thanks for taking the time to post. ken
