For those of you that were watching my threads on getting my 40 ready for its first road trip, It made it!!!:D It had a few little things that had me a little worried but overall it ran great and drove awesome as well. The car had virtually not been driven since the early 80's until recently on a couple of short test runs. A total of about 100 miles before the trip.
I started off in Tulsa @ 5 am Thursday heading to Dallas to meet 4 more HAMBers and then head to Austin. It was 35 degrees when I left with no heater:( and I didn't get much sleep the night before (Kinda like a kid on Christmas Eve) The solo trip to Dallas was boring but the car ran fine and I arrived around 10 am. We shot the Bull for a while and then all for cars headed for Austin with a couple of stops for lunch and gas.

Shots of the group before we took off from Dallas

We found a cool old Gas Station on the way and took some pics.

The rest of the group rented a house and I had a room on Congress just down from the action, It was crazy Friday and Saturday night! Burnouts, some guy riding a 15' tall bike winding through all the cars on Congress, The Posers, driving there late model cars. I just took it all in with amazement:eek: Met lots of Hambers I new and met more I didn't it was a great time.

Went on the Garage Crawl, Only made it to 2 of the stops, due to my only Mechanical hickup and I had to meet some guys at the Show grounds to deliver some parts.

And you were worried about your oil pressure!!!!...What readings did you get, or did the gleam from your teeth as you were grinning, reflect back from the gauge and you couldn't read it? What about oil burn? How many quarts did you use, if any? By any chance did you do a MPG check too?

But you made it, enjoyed yourself. That's what it's all about.

VERY COOL!!! This sounds like "3windowLarry's" post driving to the NSRA Nat's a couple of years back or NoSurf & HiBoy32's roadtrip to the Round-Up......Roadtrips are good for the mind.

Your '40 is absolutely my kind of car... Thoughtful, but casual. Love it.

Um......If you remember back a couple of months ago I offered that seat to you!:p

Yep, and I worried about it the whole trip! The pressure stayed steady at 25 to 35 at hwy speeds and about 5 at idle hot. It used a quart down and one on the way back, pretty good I thought. I think it got about 16 MPG the speedo isn't working but I used a GPS to check speed and miles I drove about 58 to 60 all the way, ran it up to about 75 on the garage crawl and it didn't like it! I rattles above 3k under acceleration all the time. I was TOTALLY happy with the car the whole way. Thanks for your earlier tips!:D

    Thanks again Mick!

Thanks Ryan, good seeing you again

Hey man. Killer I was the guy in the forty that ran by ya on I 40 north of Dallas. The funny thing is I told my wife not fifteen minutes before I saw you. I bet I'm the only forty ford going 80 through dallas right now. Haha great car I tried to slow Down when I sa ya but I think you were more concerned about that cuzzy in your hand at the time! Great car. We drove down from Fayetteville, made the 500 plus in under 8 hours both trips. Great to see ya on the road. Keep driving maybe next year or the temple drags we can hook up for the drive.

The bad thing about the LSR, it is just overloaded with kool stuff. It is just impossible to
take it all in. I was sitting within 100ft of this Roadster and never saw it. I must be getting
old. Thanks for posting the pics, now I can see what I missed..

Chris, The seat worked great! Had lots of leg room! I did put too much padding on the floor though, made it hard to get the clutch in all the way:eek:

  26. Great shots! it was an awesome show.

    Thanks!
Running down the Hwy it never got above 185, in traffic in Austin it got up to 200 a couple of times, so it really did good! When I ran it up to 75 or so trying to keep up on the Crawl it got up to 210 when I got off the Hwy and was stuck in traffic, Thats when I missed the second stop cause I let it sit and cool off. Not doing that again:eek:
