"Bottled Violence"... Nice name.... Taken from the 'Minor Threat' song, I assume...??? "Cruisin' for a Boozin" has an original Schwinn Whizzer... '48 or something like that... Half of it was in my garage for a while... Maybe he'll find this thread and it will motivate him to get to work on it....
A few years ago you could buy a running rep-production of the original Whizzer. A quick look on the internet doesn't show them being available now.
my dad found just the bicycle version 1947 ,In 1948 they used that bicycle frame for the whizzer I only remember half the name but originally hoffman ,Which later became Huffy Im storing the 47 bicycle .I had a thread awhile back about motorizing a bicycle.
I always wanted to fool around with one, but never seemed to find the time. I think I'll look around here in Indy and see what I can come up with. I need a new project that won't break the bank.
If you like (motorized) 'hotrod'bicycles be shure to check out the bicycle equivalent of the HAMB: http://www.ratrodbikes.com/ Here's a section of the motorized builds going on on the forum: http://www.ratrodbikes.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=54 I remember seeing some whizzers, but I like the custombuilds better. Enjoy!
I've got one of these (1.8 miles on the odometer and yea, I've already taken it apart and modified it.). Chinese knockoff, not nearly as neat as an original. Larry T
Yes,Yes Yes,,,got one in 1946 installed on my bike..95.00,,to throw my paper route with. still have a 1948 in my shop as I type this...
My cousin runs a Fix-It shop. A guy brought in a Whizzer to get it running. With that inspiration, he built a ten-speed into a modern version, with a Weed Whacker engine. Works great, but the cops won't let him drive it on the street without a motorcycle license! They claim that, because he took the pedals off, it's a motorcycle, not a Moped. Nit-picking Fascists.
E J Potter had Whizzer fuel tanks on some of his Chevy V8 motorcycles, someone here must have a photo.
Quite a while ago, back in the early '70's I installed heating and air conditioning systems. One job was in an old boat motor repair place. The basement was full of old Whizzer stuff, engines, tanks, bikes etc. Also a lot of old outboard motors, probably from the 30's and 40's. I thought it was interesting stuff at the time, and the owners probably would have just about given the stuff to me, it was just old obsolete stuff then, but what the heck would I want with all that old junk....
I have a restored factory Schwinn/Whizzer framed 48 Model J in my bedroom thats never been started. One of my best friends did it just before dying of cancer, it will never go any where.
i have an original 1947 whizzer mounted on a schwinn frame runs like a top,it has new rings, bearings seals and gaskits, yes parts are still available, its for sale $1300
Here is part of my collection. 1939-40 Whizzer Original paint runs great you can ride just like a Bicycle pull on the lever on tank to engage motor no belt!
Didn't Whizzer also make a model they called the Sportsman? I remember a friend of mine in high school having one and it seems like it was a 20" model. That would have been about 1955 or 56. Later, Dick
I don't know about Whizzer but I know Simplex had a sportsman model about that time. Simplexs were cool. I have a 1945 waiting to be built.
