Of course if you adjust for the economy, I'd have been driving a '57 VW Beetle... LOL!

I always thought it would be fun to have have a car from each decade. Starting with the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50, 60's, 70's. I think the best all around would be a 40 coupe ( I just picked one up). It can be a custom, hot rod, a long distance driver.

If I could have 'em all:
26 Ford T Roadster all original to appreciate the pure mechanics and where it began
32 Ford Highboy because the 40 would be a coupe.
    40 Ford Coupe Hot Rod
    56 Ford F100
60's Ford Original GT40 racecar, or a Cobra in a pinch.
70's Early BB muscle car, any would do.

There ya go. Bring back some TRUE classics. Throw a Delage in there as well.

  6. I'd pick something I knew got scrapped that if existing today would bring like a million dollars, bring it back, sell it, and buy two or three cars I really want and a garage to keep them in.

Tough call between a 40 Ford Coupe, 32 Ford 3w or my 56 Ford Meteor Crown Vic I sold when I got drafted in 69.

It'd be a 1939-40 Ford Convertible! Not any prettier car ever made!

  10. Well, I bought my 60 Starliner 13 years ago, and it's still at the top of my list so that's a good sign.
Beyond that I could go for the other Starliner - 53 Stude. And, then maybe a 37 Cord, a 39/40 Ford, a 58 DeSoto, and then, and then...

Lotsa votes for a '40 Ford coupe, here's another one. I'd also need a '33 3 window, and I'd prolly grab either the Sam Barris or the Hirohata Merc on the way through too. Again, assuming these are to be keepers, otherwise, the highest value rig I could find, so's I could retire to So-Cal and enjoy being able to drive something nice year-round.

I guess I should have included motorcycles too. My choice would be a Vincent Black Shadow,(what a neat name) or an Arial Square 4.

  17. Not to be morbid --- but I'd buy James Dean's Porsche Spyder about 2-3 days before the crash. It had a racing legacy and then the owner------What would that car be worth now?

Tough call, but I can think of a few ideas...

Cost no object? Bugatti Royale, today they're worth about $15 Million give or take. Sell it, take $5 Million, buy huge barn in middle of nowhere with big shop and fill with cars.

Take other $10 Million, live off the interest.

Now, assuming that I wouldn't have the $40-50,000 in 1931 Dollars that a Royale cost (500-600k in 2011 dollars or so) I'd buy a Duesenberg Dual-Cowl Phaeton somewhere in the late 30s to the 40s when they were considered to be worthless obsolete pigs and traded for very little.

If it was a car to keep today? Tough call but a '58 Bonneville tri-power hardtop with buckets, air and an accessory interior sun visor might be the ticket.
