Can someone tell me the name of the tool I need to romove the bolts on the body of my 41 and 46 chevy trucks and where I can find it? I have found a screwdriver bit that looks right but it is too small. They look like a squared off figure 8/x mix. any help would be greatly appreciated!
Those are called clutch head screws. Napa carries some sizes and so do most tool company's. Check LMC truck, Paddock and Jim Carter. good luck!
I do not know of a source but this type of drive is called a "Clutch Head". Early Chevy's used this type of fastener a lot.
Note to British rodders, I purchased some from the Snap on Van, not cheap, then a couple of Sundays ago I spotted a Special offer driver and bit set at my local "Aldi" discount supermarket, this kit had all three common sized clutch bits in it all for around £7 or £8 if I remember correctly whether or not the cheap ones will last the pace is another matter but for occasional use? you pay your money and make your choice. (Prior to this I had never seen clutch bits sold in the UK and Mr Snap On had to special order the bits from the US, and they took nearly three months to arrive.)
I looked at mine when I was taking off the cab of my truck, scratched my head and grabbed the die grinder. I wasn't goint to reuse them or go back to that style bolt so I cut the damn things off.
I ran into a bunch of clutch head bolts and screws on mine also, Fortunately I had a box of HF inset bit that worked on the smaller screw sizes and my die grinder fit the larger ones perfectly.
