There have been more cars built with "Bomber Seats" in the last 4 years than through all of the 40's and 50's. Guys "out west" used em mostly because thats where the airplane junk yards were. Get a couple of them for $4 or $5 because nobody wanted them. Later on they became slightly more popular when certain timing associations cleared them as safe for raceing.
Two for a grand? Most old hot rodders would have been laughing just as hard as I am now.
If you think they're cool now just wait till you sit on one on a 30 degree morning.
In 3 or 4 years these things won't be cool any where except at the nurseing home.

My opinion, your mileage may vary.

Heres is a pic of mine with the pads but I know they are kind of hard to see.
They have a comfortable rake to them and I mounted them on some
    modified cavalier tracks.
Don't know how they feel on the road yet but I am getting close.
The car is not a caddy and I don't expect the same comfort from it.

    bench.

i've had both... really dig a bench for the reasons listed above...

bit more room to scoot around on a long drive, in a tight cabin...

as the years go by and the ass gets wider, the bench continues to fit...

plus i can manage to squeeze both my kids next to me for a run around the neighborhood with a bench.

I tried bomber seats once. After a weekend, it wasn't my butt but my back. I'm too old to go through back surgery now.

Bench....Bombers are overdone. It's gotten out of hand already. They've really only been popular the past few years really. I know they were used in "race" cars in the early days but in drivers? I guestion this. Go with the bench and make it work. You could always lower seat cushion area and do alittle more to gain what you think you'll gain from the bombers.

It's a tough call on some of this some times but my butt and back usually win out in seat choice decisions.

I'd find someone with bomber seats in a similar car and ask to sit in them an maybe wangle a ride for a few miles in them before breaking down and buying or building a set.

Reproduction Model T seat springs are available new from Car-Line Mfg. in Beaumont TX and Snyder's Antique Auto Parts in New Springfield OH.
23-25 and 26-27 T-buckets accept the original-style seat cushion spring assemblies which provide a very comfortable ride after upholstery is added. The springs don't add much to seating height and are compressed a good bit when riding anyway.
Given the great roads today, the better tires and hopefuly better working suspensions of our hot rods the original coil spring seats can't be beat.
You could even use the seat back rest springs for a really nice sit.

I would contact Mike at Hotrodalleyspeed.com he also makes custom dimension bench bomber seats and the look and quality is amazing.

Still like his bomber buckets better though. Leaning towards the Style 3 ones like I posted above.

I do believe that with the proper padding they will look good and be comfy too.

I had a thought too. I can design and build mounts for the bench that will allow it to be removed and just leave bolt holes.

Then I can have it upholstered to suit the car.

I can also install the bomber buckets and have mounting locations for them.

With the sides and back of the bucket body trimmed accordingly

I could run either bench or bombers depending on what I wanted.

    Quick change seats anyone ?? :D ;)

  22. I take it that office chairs out of the question...!;) I mean that they are comfortable and designed for eight hours of sitting.

I had a pair of leather office chairs for $18 unbolted the base and arms and they fit wonderful in the Roadster!

Hey Mike... want to dump those old chairs...????:)

depends on how much of a mission you want it to be to get into/out of your car.bombers you gotta lower yourself in/lift yourself out -if you've got a dodgey back i'd say no go.
i made up some bomber seats thinking when i pull finger and build my truck i'd use them in there,i fitted one into a mates chopped coupe and tried it and was put off.
the bench you just slide on in there.after having another mates chopped a pickup with a bench for the weekend i'm going for a bench.
i suppose it depends a lot on whether the car is open/chopped ride height etc.but i would consider the above.

I prefer the looks and comfort of a bench. I think bomber "benches" are odd looking. I do appreciate the art that some of these craftsman put into building them, though.
