This car SURVIVES! The #98 jr. It's in a private Collection. ABSOLUTLY NOT FOR SALE. ...and completly torn apart.

But, It lives! Shook the guys hand that owns it, and thanked him for the knowlege that it still exists!!! Can't wait to see it come back to life someday.

One of my TOP 5 cars I'm searching for.

That record at Bristol was in a winged sprint car. I don't think the guy would have/could have held in wide open in a cageless/wingless sprint - nor would he want to. But, thank goodness a sprint car was fastest. Swindell's old record, I believe, was on dirt. Remember when they used to cover Bristol with dirt after the Cup race? I heard they clocked Sammy at 165 entering #1. I talked to a photographer (I believe it was Ken Coles) years ago and he said the reason guys like Stewart, Gordon, and Schrader made it in stock cars instead of other successful open wheel drivers was the fact they mainly drove sprints without wings. He said they could "feel" the car much better. I imagine this guy at Bristol yesterday mainly felt a high rate of pucker.

 

I seem to remember that when the WoO ran at Syracuse the speed at the end of the straight was even higher, like over 170, due to the shape of the track. Wolfgang's guys stopped at the shop that I was working at in the early 90's and after I did a repair on the right front shock mount they hung a bunch of extra sheetmetal on the car to help the "aero" at Syracuse and I may have heard it then.

I remember watching the WOO at Bristol on dirt. Scarry fast, terrible one-line racing. I'm not sure, but I'd suspect they didn't want to come back.. just too fast - how can you race if you are hanging on for your life? Gary

 

From what I've read, the problem at Bristol was the "clean up" after the dirt race with the sprinters.

 

Anyone know what kind of speed/time Clauson had?

I realize this is a vintage sprint car thread but I have a question for Joe [Wynn #1] or other HAMB historians - Does anyone know if the "Vita-Fresh" Dirt car still exists? It was driven by Bobby Unser and later by George Benson when owned by Maxson. I have some spare parts that belonged to the car - I am curious if the owner would be interested in a spare front axle, driveline/brake parts and Halibrand wheels? Some of the wheels are stamped "Vita-Fresh."

YES! I was just gonna post that! That is a "New" picture we have not seen of that car! Different day.. looks like a different driver and definatly different front tire, shorter Injector stacks, windshield, No Contestant sticker on cowl and possibly different Pitman arm, and NO SCALLOPS!

Wow! Geat find Sm66p.. Can I share that with the Hoffman's? They have a large photo collection of there past race cars framed on the shop wall.

ALSO NOTE!!! The "H" added below the Agajanian "A". Ol Timer Hoffmans name was Augustus Hoffman, he went by "Gus" so.. the "A-H" fit great for the Owner.

 

Can ya'll tell me who the driver was, and What track that is. The Numbers on the wall look familiar. Stadium?
