Like them pipes!

 

Little progress, not much though. Tough time figuring out what to do with the license plate so I finally just sunk it in the rear panel. Put some round rod around the recess so the edges didnt look so sharp.

 

Trimmed out the edges around the header opening with more round rod and the openings in the rocker area for the pipes to come back out of. Thanks to Robleticia for help on this. He loves to weld and grind! This stuff is quite time consuming for the small area you actually end up finishing. Pipes are just hanging there for the pic so yes, they will be level when mounted.

 

The passenger side quarter had been hit at some point and was "straightened" with a sledge hammer and a torch I think. We ended up cutting part of it out around the taillight opening and into the quarter panel. Lots of hammering and pulling and we got it pretty close. Remade part of the taillight opening wrapping around into the quarter panel and a small section of the quater panel. Of course I forgot to get a pic of the quater and the piece had been patched back in. I am pleased with the repair as fixing that had been bugging me for quite some time.

Its really coming together ! Do you plane to go all the way and paint it before it hits the road or are ya gonna run it in primer first? I cant wait to see the body all one color, shiny or primer!

I think as long as this has taken already I am going to go all the way to final paint before it hits the road. No reason I can see to drive it in primer then take it back apart. I am tired of taking this car apart.....

Have you thought about using headlight buckets from a 1961 Chrysler Imperial like these

 

Yes, I have. I actually have a set of them. They are to large and interfere with the steering. I took them apart and mounted them up as single and planned on running them like that. However, now I am back to being determined to run quad headlight. I have something in the works and will post pics if it works out.

The Imperial lights I have are for sale in the classified if anyone is interested in them.

 

I think thats a good idea...but ya got any ideas as far as the paint job goes?....maybe just a hint

 

60's style panel paint job, not sure on colors yet. Thats pretty much been the plan since day one.

I just found a field full of finned Mopars......one of them is my '57 Savoy from high school. I've been toying with something like this (but different) for a long while.....maybe I can get the whole bunch cheap enough to sell enough parts to finance my own version of a fenderless Mopar street-sweeper. Love this build!! I can't wait to see it in paint......still planning heavy flake with the panels?

 

Thats cool that you found your high school ride. Buy em all and build a showrod! Still planning on panels, no heavy flake, small maybe medium flake yes, just not really big flake. Bodywork is getting close to being done. Still got aways to go but I am finally seeing light at the end of tunnel!
