The SBC in my roadster is going to get replaced by something come rebuild time. Anybody ever compared a 331 Cad? Red Ram / DeSoto? Compared size & weight. I don't want a SBF but I am gonna change but keep the T-5. Ideas?

Cad and Hemi's will weigh in at 100-150 lbs more and produce less horsepower per dollar spent.Added cost in front suspension mods to handle the weight. You will have to weigh the coolness factor vs. cost.

Hate to see a good Chevy go but I think with the look of your car a 331 Cadillac would look great in that car.

I think a flathead would make it "real" and the next guy will say something different. Conventional wisdom can often be very boring or routine, where is your comfort zone?

Hate to see one of my beloved chevys being replaced but in this case your forgiven. I'll go out on a limb here and suggest a nailhead Buick w/a Hillborn injection convered to EFI (Think Tommy Ivo's t-bucket). If you go this way I would think you could leave the hood in the garage. You could also do the buick with a 3x2 or 2x4 if the injection is out of reach.

How about a tri-powered Y-block? A 312 would scoot that car down the road real nice and sound great to boot.

What SBC do you have in your roadster now and what are you going to do with it when you take it out? I might be interested if the price is right.......

Well if you want to go slow add a FE Ford extra weight and no power. Nailhead all dolled up would look good imy opinion. Some guys love to hate on Chevy's ....I see 'em in my rear view mirror all the time.

Buick, Cad or olds are all good choices. Just weigh the cost of the speed equiptment that you want to run in helping make a decision. P.S. the Olds make good torque !!!

  23. If you can find a '56 D500 or a '57 KD500 Red Ram Hemi, you could still close the hood without any alterations. Think of them as "the poor mans Ardun. Certainly not cheap to build but the "cool factor", as partsdawg says, is off the scale. They weigh 611 lbs, bone stock, you can shed 75 to100 lbs with some of the Hot Heads stuff.

Here's a pic of the '54 Chrysler in my Deuce, have blisters on the hood to clear the Valve Covers.

i always like the look of the nailhead buick or a early olds the flathead or hemi are great looking motors but take a lot to make go and are the new belly button motors along with flatheads a stock 390 59 caddy with the tri-power is nice too and the y-block ford is a good looking motor ( i,m redoing the one in my ford right now lot of $$$$$ but i like them and to me nothing sounds like a y-block with glass packs) think about doing the sbc like a early 283 ? that would be the cost whys good luck with what you pick and let us know

I think either a Cad or Nailhead would be cool.
