Need MSD coil or Any HD Universal Coil work? Need Ballast?

FYI

Does anyone know if need to use an MSD Coil with an MSD Electronic Chevy Distributor or will any HD Coil suffice? Is a Ballast Resistor required with Electronic Distributor?

Personally, I think any HD Coil will work and no Ballast is required but double checking my thinking for a friend.

Any good coil will work. If it is a breakerless electronic dist. = no ballast.
