well, i did it. sealed the deal yesterday, which was my birthday, and drove her home today.

i've been working on this deal for close to two years with this older guy down the street who has a lot of nice model a's. he is a very cool old guy, crotchety as all hell, and it took me a long time to get him to warm up, and even longer to get him to sell me this coupe. he has owned it for the last 20 years-until today.

she is basically stock, except for juice brakes(!)

runs and drives well, although a little "tinkering" will be good for her.

so what do you think? did i done gooood?? :D

words can't describe how pumped i am right now......

    here she is!

  7. Nice Car!

I know of one sitting in a carport that looks just like it! Same colours! Everytime I talk to the man, I ask him the last time it was running and he always says "...two years ago...."

He's been saying that for 12 years now. He told me what he would need to get for it, then when I came with some cash, now he only wants to trade!

    Beautiful !!
Only thing I would change is the rumble -- I like a trunk.
    And lowering...
    And a little chop...
    And steelies...
...what ever you like but nice find !!!!

    hey thanks guys.

decklid will be converted back to regular trunk style, i don't like the rumble lid. it wasn't even a rumble seat car to begin with. i'll be switching it back.

as far as plans, it will be getting a 6" hair cut, fenders and aprons yanked, maybe a leaf or two out of it (i still want it to sit pretty high) and warm up the banger some. kind of a gow-job kind of thing.. but chopped pretty heavy. keeping the wire wheels, they will be black, as will the car. and black wall tires. black on black on black. interior already has a nice tuck style black vinyl seat in it, just getting door panels to match.

picture hotrod-40's coupe basically, but painted black and black wheels.

thanks for all the kind words guys, i appreciate it.

as far as the dude being bummed about what i'm going to do to it, he won't be. he has a lot of nice restored A's, but a couple that are hot rodded too.

i also out of respect to him, asked him long before the deal was finalized if he would be offended if i were to make a mild hot rod out of it. his response was
"shit, what the hell would i care, it would be YOUR car, am i gonna tell you what to do with YOUR car????"

so, he won't be shocked or upset when he sees it. he is a cool old guy and a wealth of knowledge, i plan to continue to visit him often, i really do like hanging out with him.

as far as keeping the fenders and less chop, NO WAY! i know exactly how i want to build it, and it may not be what some people would do, but it's exactly what i want.

just search hotrod-40's coupe to get an idea. if anyone can tell me that car isn't cool with a straight face, i'll give them a dollar.

......and then build my car the way i want it!

    thanks again.

Sure would look good as an Av8 and a set of 16" '35 wires/blackwalls..........................a 2" chop, and the fenders still aboard.

I'd spend some time riding in and driving if you can, a Model A with a six inch chop before you cut it that much. I wouldn't want to see it be one of those cars with a wild chop that never gets driven much because it is too uncomfortable to drive any distance. 4 inches in my 48 is right at the limit of the comfort zone and it's a lot bigger cabin than the A bone coupe.

  28. hey i agree with you on everything but the chop. Not only will it be uncomfortable but when you do that hevay of a chop the back quarter windows get pointed in the rear and dont have a nice roll. Just think you can always cut more but its a bitch to patch metal back in. I wouldnt go more than five inches though, But thats just my two cents.

  29. nice car! bet your glad you "stepped up" and spent a little more in the begining than draging home a hulk cheap and spending the rest of your life dreaming about driving it. thats really looks like a great start.
