Sorry Bob....I havent seen him since around 1971 or 72 (I think) when I had the Plymouth torn down for an IHRA record at a Colonial Beach Va. points race. I assume it was from Jerry Stien?

I borrowed it from Tommy for finial points meet at Atco 73 and he let me paint it. Missed being SS champ by one round.

yes - That Shrewsberry 68 Dart was suppose to be Chrysler's "pride and joy" of stock eliminator for 68 and be the "dominant ruler" of E/S UNTIL he ran into Ron Garey's Chesrown E/S Olds at the 68 Winternationals --- the debut for both cars -- Garey dusted the Dart ( and I always thought it was a Swinger - not a GTS - but OK) in class competition. They took that Dart back to Wherever it came from --- Never saw Shrewsbery in it again --- and the car was "put out to pasture" by chrysler. Then after that you saw Shrewsberry catch a ride in the S&M SS/F car!

Dodge Dart GTS 340 1968, for Wild Bill....
The Swinger didn't come out until 1969 (ie, Car Craft Give-away car)

Yes, Chrysler (Los Angeles County Dodge Dealers) put alot of effort into that car.
Keith Black did the engine too.

Over-heating problems developed in that engine. Blowing out the head gaskets
    between the cylinders.

Charlie was sponsored by Saddleback Dodge by then. They had a door slammer guy Bobby Thomson(-spelling is correct) that did some of the work on that Dart. He also built one (this one an automatic for F/SA)for Gene O'Hara (owner of Saddleback) to run in the dealer competition. He ran that car himself in OCIR brackets every week. He helped me and many of my Marine friends with our cars during very late '68 and all of 1969. Good guy that later had a transmission shop, and may have had some issues after that....lived in Costa Mesa when I new him.

Heres a scan of pix in the spread in the new April edition of Hemmings Muscle Car magazine about 68 SpringNationals and Ron Garey's 68 Chesrown Olds? Can anyone ID the white 67 442 D/S #739 in other lane in center pic? If this pic is from the 68 SpringNats the name should be in entry list and class winner list? These pics are new to me. I thought I had every pic taken of Rons car at that race, but these are new to me!! Colsey, you got one of those lists?

Cool! Hope it's a '56 block rather than a '55. I got into one of those deals 45 years ago. Dealing with a remote oil filter is a PITA.

    Good luck.

Nice photos and articles,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,great shared information.

On the 1968 Dodge Dart GTS, driven by Bill Shrewsberry.
    #879 on door panel.
Thats a 68' GTS. Round side-lights, round front parking lights. GTS emblem on fender.
    Weight #3264.
    Ran E/Stock.
The GTS cars came equipped with the sport package, including bucket seats, console
    and interior up-grades.
Full dual bumble-bee stripe on back panel and trunk deck-lid.

Problem with the engine. Lite-weight pistons not available. Heavy factory .040 slugs used.
Plus, blow-by between the cylinders. Poor sealing head-gaskets.
Block was not O-ringed. Caused over-heating problems.
No Dart Swingers in 1968. Only 340 and 383 GTS cars.

Im curious if anyone has any idea what the various 55-57 Chevy stockers would run with engines that fit the current stocker rules with the new technology in the engine, clutches, transmissions, & the stuff we dont discuss ? As an ex junior stocker racer from the 60s & early 70s I feel I have the credentials to ask this, Im not some newbie kid but a worn out senior citizen whos just curious. What kind of ET improvements would you expect to gain ? My guess would be 2.5 to 3 seconds decrease, the higher end going to the automatics......ex 283/185 hp 59 Biscayne P/S racer

Hey Mr. Sinistri, I hope you're speaking of York! Make sure to tell the fellow that owns "Buckshot" to try and attend again this year. My car was directly behind his at last years show and he's a great guy. I'm embarrassed that I can't recall his name---you know "It's right on the tip of my tongue". I saw you and Larry signing the roof and said "Hi"---maybe you remember. Anyway, looking forward to July. EVERYBODY---- Let's have a GREAT turnout and plan to meet again in person. Until next time..... Dave.
