I thought about stepping the lower a arms, but I will not buy drop spindles. Not looking to lay frame, just looking to get lower while maintaining decent suspension geometry. Won't stepping the lower a arms create more negative camber?
I believe 53/54 Spindle uprights will give you an extra inch of drop. Find someone putting a Pinto front suspension under theirs, should be easy to strike a deal.
Neighbor decided to swap with me so I started pullin out the caddy 331 today. Got it mostly out, but the exhaust is giving me fits so I'll have to finish tomorrow. Pics tomorrow!
Bass's chop is definitely one that I look to for inspiration, but I have a few things that I want to do differently with my chop. One of the things that you'll notice about a fleetline is that the roof crown line doesn't follow the same line as the top of the windows. It starts in the front with less roof crown and as the window line falls off the top of the roof keeps going back before dropping off. In the photo shop above of the hardtopped fleetline I actually turned down the roof earlier to try and keep the relationship between the window line and crown the same all the way back...
I had to run out to see if my 52 Fleetline was missing!! Man that car can pass for a twin of mine.Well a twin with less rust!! Cool build.
Been looking at houses and hunting down parts for the most part. The build should pick up soon... 57 chevy rear end and a pair of 50s chevy car wheels...
Put an offer in on a house so we are done looking at least for now so it's time to get serious. Pulled the body off this morning
Man I'm tired... Long weekend, but I got a lot done. Does anyone know if the splines on a '54 hydramatic tail shaft are the same as other later GM models? Also, does anyone have any impala/bel air/biscayne rear coil springs?
Started making some axle plates tonight, got the flat piece cut out and drilled for the u-bolts... just gotta cut some plate out to fit around the radius of the axle and weld that to the flat plate. I won't weld the completed axle plates to the axle until the motor is mounted and I'm certain of the pinion angle needed...
Yeah I'll be there for sure... Hoping to get some work done tomorrow after a nice mountain bike ride. Updates soon! Gonna finish up the axle plates and start lowering to front!
Thanks! I gotta find some time to get back out there and finish up the axle brackets and get started on the front end...
You can use stock rear jeep wrangler coil springs. They give about an inch of drop compared to stock truck springs. Most 4x4 shops will give them to you.
