The treaded (dirtcar) tire was a softer compound than what was available in slicks at the time. Softer is faster...............

The place is the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds in York Springs PA. It's on the site of the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.

Every year there are many different events held there. all help to raise funds to keep the museum running. A sampling are the Williams Grove Old Timers meet there in the late summer. There is the Latimore Valley Fair in late June and the HAMB's own Scary Larry has the Jalopy Showdown in May. I highly recommend the Jalopy Showdown because you get to do things like this.....

Not to be critical of anyone, but it's cars like in post 9162 that have taken all the fun out of vintage racing for me. Most of the events available to us have "25 year" rules. That means that this summer, cars build up to 1986 will be able to run vintage class. My ole' homebuilt car from 1965 that was built from scrap parts just doesn't have a chance against cars like these. We usually don't have enough car count to run old mods vs. new mods (like they try to do with midgets). Not to say these aren't well built, beautiful cars, but these guys have an easy 3 second advantage over my car on 1/3 mile track (I don't even want to think about what it is on a half mile.)

Oh well, with my arthritis the way it is, I can hardly get in and out of the car anymore. I guess it's time for both of us to be put out to pasture.

The VSCCA has the right attitude, that the cars are the stars. Not who wins. It is nice to race and compete. But for me to get to an event and see an old 70;s or 80's car, and also get to see some old flat head 3 window cars is great. Don't park it, we don't care how fast it goes.

Yeah, that's easy to say as a spectator, but a racer is a racer, and it's tough to keep coming back every week when you can't keep up.

There ain't an honest racer in the world who likes to get outrun.

This guy is right on. Show me a guy who doesn't mind being lapped once (and every once in a while, twice) in a ten lap show, and I'll show you a guy who ain't a racer.:D

    Sorry for the threadjack, but,

Good to see you today Rich, a trip to your shop is worth the fellowship and the great education on rods and "Modifieds" and a few good laughs.

Hey Harold, It's always great to see you and I TRULY appreciate you coming over to stripe the car. Great job! It's an honor to have the man that lettered so many Modifieds lay his brush on the stuff I build!

He ain't much to look at, but he can pull some lines!

Hey, no problem here. Has the right look in B&W

That was Matt at Latimore Valley 2 years ago in the first speedster we made. Denise (hotrodladycruiser) was riding shotgun.

That place is an absolute blast!
