If you hadn't shown how the process was done step by step, NOBODY would have ever guessed it was done from a pattern out of a box! Excellent tech article, kinda takes all the mystery out of what appears to be an impossible job at first glance...hell, I could even paint flames with this method!! Well done tech, beautiful finished product! Outstanding!

I like it. I like the way the color works. I like the shadowing that was added, that makes it jump. Flames look fairly traditional and clean at the same time. What really made all this come together was the white pinstriping. Killer work.

Know-nothing question: why paint the striping on top of the clear instead of protecting it under the clear? Thanks.

Looks great , never seen flames out of a box. Always had to draw one side or tape it then copy on paper and pounce it with chaulk and then fine line tape , to put on the other side. Looks good !!!

Awesome!! You've just given hope to all the artistically challenged out there, me being the leader of that particular group.

Looks great! I would probably be willing to try my own flames with stencils, laying them out myself would be disastrous....

  17. EH! It's okay.......
Just kidding Mitch! I loved the way it came out, when I saw it at the Motorama.....I want to touch up my black and shoot clear over mine. It's so much easier to take care of.
Where do the flame stencils come from?

we just gotta make sure we're never parked next to each other lest we look like a couple.

stencils are AutoAir Colors brand from coast airbrush in anaheim.

  23. For those of us that do not have the artistic ability to lay out flames by hand, this could be the answer. nice job!

I could even help you recoup some of that stencil investment if you think you're done with them.

From one flame fan to another, WICKED COOL !!!

I sorta resorted to the stencil idea myself. Once I had the pattern I wanted, I stenciled it and transferred it to the other side of the car. Did the same on the hood and roof. Got half a side done, then stenciled the other half for match and balance.

Nothing wrong with a stencil if you want balance..... I'm impressed.
